This has been one very long week. In fact, I can’t even remember last weekend, it was so long ago. And now they tell me this weekend is Easter (which, if memory serves, must mean today is Good Friday, though I don’t see where getting nailed to a cross qualifies as a ‘good’ day, but then that Catholic shit never really took with me).

Life with a puppy (even one as good as this one is) is pretty tiring. Instead of having an entourage of one big dog and two cats, I’m now followed everywhere I go by a big dog, two cats, and a puppy. I haven’t even had much time to play with my new Chumby (which is really pretty cool, I must say).

Oh well, at least I get to finish out my week in my preferred location, where I can come home for lunch, and be out at four o’clock. So let’s get this day going already.

Got to watch them launch DirecTV 11 last night. Not quite as thrilling as a NASA launch (not as many cameras, for one thing), but pretty cool nonetheless. Hopefully, I’ll have more HD channels soon.

Today’s the fifth anniversary of the start of the invasion of Iraq. Here’s an interesting article I found from just before the invasion – March 10, 2003:

The average price of gasoline increased 5 cents a gallon over the last two weeks, according to a national survey released Sunday.

Americans paid an average of $1.7212 a gallon, less than 1 cent below the all-time high of $1.7271 on May 18, 2001, the Lundberg Survey said. The numbers were not adjusted for inflation.

A year ago, the nationwide average price for a gallon of gas was $1.20.

We’ve certainly come a long way.

Some people are green on St. Patrick’s Day. I’m usually a little green on the day after. Unfortunately, DirecTV 11 didn’t launch yesterday. The earliest they can go again in tomorrow. Bummer.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Duit!

Today really ought to be a holiday. Or at least tomorrow. Aside from the big holiday, it’s also an exciting day because DirecTV 11 will be launched from the Sea Launch Platform somewhere on the equator. Hopefully it’ll be a successful launch, with the result being more HD channels in short order. For anybody who enjoys watching rockets blasting off into space, you can watch a live webcast of the launch here, starting at 3:30 PM Pacific Time (6:30 Eastern), with the launch scheduled for 3:49 PM PDT. Those of us with DirecTV get to watch the launch on channel 573.

I just hope the damn thing doesn’t blow up.

So, what’s up for today? More of the same, no doubt.

For instance, on Press the Meat, Timmy Potatohead hosts yet another battle of the surrogates. This week, it’s Obamite Bill Bradley vs. Clintonite Nita Lowery. Plus a roundtable of Dean David Broder, David Gregory, and NPR’s Michele Norris.

The parade of surrogates continues on Faze the Nation, as Bush Buddy Bobby Schieffer hosts Clinton guy Leon Panetta, and Obama speech writer supporter Deval Patrick. Plus NY Time hack David Brooks and the Chicago Tribune’s Clarence Page.

Yet more of the same over on Fux News Sunday, as Weaselface Wallace has Chuck Schmumer on for Clinton, and Chris Dodd on for Obama. He also has Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, and of course the usual fuxheads.

The Goebbels network breaks the pattern on This Weak, as George Snufalufagus has Nancy Pelosi, and a retread of Henry Paulson. Then at the roundtable, it’s the Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus, Time Magazine asshole Mark Halperin, political masternind Donna Brazile and George :jerk: Will.

CNN returns to the formula with DINO Dianne Feinstein for Clinton and Pat Leahy for Obama. Then Henry Paulson gets trotted out again, along with Clinton Economic AdviserccGene Sperling, McCain Economic Adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin, and Robin Wright from the Washington Post.

Later, on 60 Minutes, Dennis Quaid tells Steve Kroft about his twins, and Lesley Stahl reports on the ‘Science of Sleep.’ I don’t know about the science, but I could sure use some more of it.

Have a good Sunday y’all.

So, Eliot Spitzer is history. Gone because he apparently had a bit of a jones for high-priced hookers. Stupid? Yes. Tacky? A little bit. Hypocritical? Big time. But worthy of all this venom and feigned indignation? Hardly. If Spitzer can be drummed out of office less than a week after his involvement with hookers became known, why the fuck are George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Karl Rove, Alberto Gonzalez – just to name a few – not in prison? Invading a country a killing 4,000 Americans and perhaps as many as a million innocent Iraqis on false (and illegal) pretenses, torture, suspension of habeas corpus, illegally spying on Americans, stealing elections, outing a covert CIA agent, and outright negligence in their handling of everything from foreign affairs to domestic disaster relief and suppressing the science on global warming – and that’s not even a complete list – certainly have to merit impeachment and imprisonment. Certainly a helluva lot more than entering into a mutual financial contract to dip your quill in an expensive ink well.

We all know how twisted things have become in this country, but what’s telling is that NY Republicans demanded Spitzer resign or they’d impeach him, and there were enough NY Democrats ready to throw him under the bus that he really had no choice. For US House and Senate Democrats, however, impeachment of war criminals is “off the table.”

For some reason, I was thinking this was either Thursday or Friday. Too bad it turns out to be Wednesday; this working stuff is kind of annoying. I told Granny if she’d just get a job as a $5,000 an hour hooker, I could stay at home and take care of the doggies. And, hell, she’d only have to work a few hours a week. ‘Til then, I guess I better get off my ass and go to work.
