Yesterday was a pretty tough Monday, and I’m glad to be rid of it. Hopefully today will be better. And it’s a big day, too. Not only will Scott Walker steal the election in Wisconsin, but, as I’m sure everyone’s heard by now, today Venus will transit the sun for only the second (and final) time of our lifetime (assuming you were alive in 2004 and there aren’t any major medical breakthroughs on the horizon). <\/p>\n
If you haven’t got your welder’s goggles handy, you can watch it live online<\/a> (which is probably a much better view). And of course there’s an app for that<\/a>, which is an attempt to recreate the 1761\/1768 and 1874\/882 experiments<\/a> that attempted to determine the distance of the Earth from the sun (which is about 93 million miles).<\/p>\n Here in my neck of the woods, we won’t get to see the whole thing, but we’ll get to see the beginning at 6:10 PM. You folks out west get to see it all.<\/p>\n
