Hopefully today will be better.  And it&#8217;s a big day, too.  Not only will Scott Walker steal the election in Wisconsin, but, as I&#8217;m sure everyone&#8217;s heard by now, today Venus will transit the sun for only the second (and final) time of our lifetime (assuming you were alive in 2004 and there aren&#8217;t any major medical breakthroughs on the horizon). <\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t got your welder&#8217;s goggles handy, <a href=\"http:\/\/events.slooh.com\/\">you can watch it live online<\/a> (which is probably a much better view).  And of course <a href=\"http:\/\/transitofvenus.nl\/wp\/getting-involved\/phone-app\/\">there&#8217;s an app for that<\/a>, which is an attempt to recreate the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/technology\/archive\/2012\/06\/for-scientists-of-the-18th-century-the-transit-of-venus-was-their-final-chance-to-measure-the-solar-system\/258013\/\">1761\/1768 and 1874\/882 experiments<\/a> that attempted to determine the distance of the Earth from the sun (which is about 93 million miles).<\/p>\n<p>Here in my neck of the woods, we won&#8217;t get to see the whole thing, but we&#8217;ll get to see the beginning at 6:10 PM.
