It appears that I’m supposed to be all agog at the fact that the Duchess of Whogivesafuk is knocked up (and has severe morning sickness), because it’s big big BIG news (no surprise, really, what with her traipsing around without any knickers all the time). I mean, good for them and all, as they’re doing something that has been done over 108 billion times before, and will be done billions of times more (assuming the world doesn’t end in three weeks or so). Sorry, but I care as much about her and Prince William in a can having a baby as you all care that SU is going to play WV in the Pinstripe Bowl (outside of Vernon, who might possibly have a slight interest there). Hell, I don’t even care when people I know, have babies, let alone complete strangers.

Meanwhile, it looks like the Republicans want to raise the Medicare age to 67 (I have yet to see specifics as to who gets screwed – hate to be selfish, but if they want to raise it for people under 50, I won’t be nearly as pissed off as if they screw the under 55 crowd). They also want to diddle with the way Social Security calculates COLAs, so that old people get screwed out of a few more bucks. Or a lot more bucks. I guess that’d be OK with Sheldon Adelson – he’s willing to make that sacrifice.

But the Republicans are giving up…. Well, not much. They want to cap deductions so that people will stop donating to charity. There’s also talk of getting rid of that pesky “pre-tax” health insurance, and count your employer’s contribution to your health insurance as taxable income. Oh, wouldn’t that be nice? And right before x-mas, too!

Big day for me today, as the appraiser is coming to the house. This should be the final step (other than the actual closing) on my mortgage refinance. I’m anxious to get this over already. It will hopefully allow me to cut a couple years off the mortgage so I can pay it off before I retire (though, the way things seem to be headed, that might not be so difficult).

Oh well, I suppose I’d better get back to work.
