Over at the Morning Sedition site, they’ve posted the “last weekend thread.” 🙁 This isn’t the last weekend thread here, of course, but it’s with heavy heart that we approach the last week of Morning Sedition. Did you watch “Homecoming” on Showtime last night? Are you planning on seeing “Syriana” this weekend? Blog away, Seditionists.

This is the last Friday where we end the week secure in the knowledge that Morning Sedition will be there for us come Monday morning. I find this more and more impossible to believe.

As we contemplate the fact that Morning Sedition will soon come to an end, we mark the anniversary of an even sadder event; John Lennon was murdered 25 years ago tonight.

I find it inconceivable that’s it’s been so long. God, I was young then, and going on my second college. It was a Monday night, as I recall. Some of the guys were watching the football game in one of the lounges, but I wasn’t particularly interested in the teams that night, so I was in my room listening to the radio when they came on and gave us the news. I walked down the hall to break the news, and just after I did so, Howard Cosell announced to the Monday Night Football world that John Lennon was dead. He was 40 years old.

It was even sadder, because John had just returned to making music again; Mark David Chapman has deprived us of 25 years of what I’m certain would have been great music, humor, and insight. The world needs you John – now, more than ever.

Blog on.

It’s hard to get excited about the weekend when you know it’s bringing us one step closer to the end of Morning Sedition on Air America. But that doesn’t mean it has to be the end of the Morning Seditonists. Blog your weekend away here, and don’t forget to check out our forums.

Blue Christmas

That’s right, Bill O’Lielly, I said CHRISTMAS. Buy Blue has put together their 2005 a list of retaliers that donate primarily to Democratic candidates. They also rate companies on Labor & Human Rights, the Environment, Employment Equality, Corporate & Social Responsibility, and Industry Practices (Wal-Mart sucks all the way around). They even have a handy PDF version that you can print out and take along with you on your holiday (yes, Bill, holiday) shopping. Of course, you can also research your favorite retailer(s) and see how they spend the money you drop at their stores.

From the BBC:

A US civil rights groups says it is taking the CIA to court to stop the transportation of terror suspects to countries outside US legal authority.

The lawsuit will charge that CIA officials at the highest level violated US and universal human rights laws when they authorised agents to abduct an innocent man, detain him in incommunicado, beat him, drug and transport him to a secret CIA prison in Afghanistan,” the ACLU said in a news release.

CBC apparently has a bunch of goldbergs listening

Canadian conservative radio host and columnist Michael Coren got himself fired after upsetting listeners by staging an apparently too-real sounding fake phone call with a supposedly fat American (from New Jersey).

Yesterday Coren said he feels “rather liberated (to have) my evenings back.”

“It does sadden me, however, that the sort of people who routinely blame starvation in Africa and Asia on the victims become so upset over the mockery of an obviously staged obese American,” Coren said.

“This is the hypocrisy that I was trying to expose. It seems I succeeded. It was also just very, very funny! If only the professionally offended would become so upset over the homeless, the war in Iraq and general injustice.”

This is what they call a conservative in Canada? Damn, we gotta get us some of those.
