The only thing you really need to know today is that Buck is home.
But, if you must know…
On Press the Meat today, Barney Frank is on to talk about stimulating David Gregory’s package. I think. I mighta read that wrong. Also talking about “the package” are Claire McCaskill, Nevada Senator John “Insane” Ensign, and Indiana cracker, Mike Pence. Plus “Fiasco” author Tom Ricks (who appears to have a pretty big friggin’ head).
Over at Faze the Nation, loser John McCain will be on, desperately trying to prove he’s relevant. Plus there’s that very rare species of human – a Democrat from North Dakota – Kent Conrad. He’ll be on to explain that it’s the South Dakota Democrats that don’t pay their taxes. Plus the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, Christina Romer.
On Fux News Sunday, Weaselface Wallace hosts Larry Summers, the director of the National Economic Council, and perhaps the biggest asshole in the Senate (and there’s a lot of competition for that title), John “cornhole” Cornyn from (of course) Texas. This week’s crew of fuxheads includes creepy Fred Barnes (seriously, would you let him babysit your five year old son?) of The Weakly Standard, NPR’s Mara Liasson, the extraordinarily arrogant and ignorant Charles Krauthammer, and Juan “token” Williams.
Speaking of tokens, Michael Steele (a species even more rare than a ND Democrat) pops into the Goebbels network studios to yell out “tax cuts” a few million times. Larry Summers will also be on hand so that George Snufalufagus has somebody to ridicule, and then, at the roundtable, it’s Robert Reich, disgraced, washed up, has-been Newt Gingrich, George :jerk: Will, and Claire “mid” Shipman.
Mitch McConnell isn’t on anywhere this week, but I just wanted to add that he’s a prick.
In the afternoon, you get one more shot to watch some football (sort of), when NBC airs the Pro Bowl.
Later, on 60 Minutes, Katie Couric will gush and fawn over US Airways Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and his flight crew (apparently there was some sort of plane landing in the Hudson River the other day; I don’t think it’s been covered in the news much). Katie gets a double segment for this one. Then Steve Kroft reports on Coldplay, including a “candid” interview with Chris Martin.
In answer to a question I saw yesterday asking “Who DIDN’T take the roids,” the answer is: me
I have taken neither steroids nor human growth hormone. All this male pulchritude is 100% natural, baby.
And I’m packin’ one helluva stimulus package, if you know what I mean.
Oh, and if you read on some blog somewhere that somebody is claiming to have been “banned” from here, just know that it aint true. They’ve either forgotten their password/username/e-mail address (more likely all three) and are therefore incapable of retrieving their password, or they’re lying.
Or both.
Have a good Sunday, y’all.
More football today? Oh well, I’ll find a way to enjoy my football widowhood.
I heard or read last night the reason that 60 votes are needed in the Senate to pass the stimulus. It’s not because the Repugnants are threatening a filibuster. The stimulus bill would raise the debt and to do so there must be 60 votes to pass. So, the Dems need at least two Righties to vote with them.
Sue, I don’t think that is true. It was one of the provisions of the Balanced Budget Amendment that has never passed.
From 2006
Morning Edition, March 16, 2006 · Faced with a potential government shutdown, the Senate votes to raise the nation’s debt limit for the fourth time in five years. The bill passed by a 52-48 vote, increasing the ceiling to $9 trillion. The bill now goes to the president.
In Cali, we have something like that requiring a super majority to raise taxes, hence the horrible mess we are in now.
Man, in the dark of morning I was carefully reading to see where Arnie and his tiny package were appearing today until closer inspection revealed what I was really looking at. What one can achieve from hoisting beers and doggie tugs of war!
:40: :pup:
Well, PJ, didn’t you ban Speed Racer back in the beginning? I can’t remember any of his other aliases right now.
I keep looking at that chart PJ posted yesterday and remembering what President Obama said about the SUV and the hybrid approaching a cliff. I think they both went over and they’re in free fall without even a ledge to break the fall. :fire: :holla:
Vern, I read it on DK. There’s a long, detailed post about it that says it’s subject to a point of order that can be waived by a 3/5 vote.

California has passed many populist propositions. Some of them are famously problematic. NYC votes on ballot propositions, too, but they can be overturned by the City Council, which just overturned term limits so that the irreplaceable Bloomie can lead us through this financial disaster.
Nice imagery, KP.
Palemale and Lola, indifferent to our political and financial trials, have begun to mate. What’s really interesting, to me, is the 5th photo down which was taken from 5 city blocks away. That’s a quarter of a mile. That must be some lens!
Thanks, Sue. Now my brain hurts. I am guessing that we will not see this eventuality even if there are not 60 votes.
Yes, speedie was pre-banned (so to speak; there isn’t really a way to “ban” somebody, just make it tough for them to comment), due to the fact that he was such a complete and total idiot on the old MS blog, and I really didn’t want his nonsense. He slipped a couple past the goalie though.
I also work rather diligently to keep the spambots away.
That’s it, though. I could delete user accounts. That would not only remove the account, but it would also remove every comment posted by that user. Clearly, I haven’t done that (nor would I want to).
However, it was pointed out to me that there are a couple of people (not that meathead speedie) who are claiming to have been “banned.” That’s just not true. I suppose I shouldn’t care and shouldn’t have mentioned it. It irked me for a few minutes, but I have resolved to become a kinder, gentler person, and was quickly over it.
There are people I miss “seeing” around here, and others, not so much.
Speaking of people I miss, I heard from King Kong the other day. He was having problems getting logged in. Tried to help him out, but haven’t heard back from him. Maybe he’ll pop in one of these days.
National Health
pj, outstanding opening. thank you for starting my day off right. i cried for Buck and cried with laughter at the rest!
there’s another blog i read (legal one) and there are some horrible trolls there. wish the blog master would ban ’em. It’s useless stuff and, like speedracer, once I learn their names, i just pass ’em by. they are always off topic and always, without exception, spew the thugs’ talking points. does the rnc employ these idiots?
now, off to check out sp’s bird picts.
Oh – went kayaking last early evening (have to wear a dry suit this time of year) and it was spectacular – sun going down, moon overhead, seals following me, snow capped mountains in the distance, birds feeding….
sp, those photos are spectacular. I read Lincoln’s foia requests pertaining to the turkey – those are spectacular in themselves!
I apologize to those of you who eschew the boobleheadry but I saw this buffoon today
This Week: Steele Complains That Stimulus Bill Creating Work, Not Jobs
A wonder to behold!
I watched ten minutes of Press the Meat and had to turn it off. Nothing but tired old rethug talking points. Thank God the Three Sttoges come on at 11:00.
I guess to a Republican work is that labor stuff, a job is an opportunity to steal.
I guess to a Republican work is that labor stuff, a job is an opportunity to
stealclimb the ladder of opportunity.I’m pondering whether or not to bother watching the Grammies. Last year was fun, but that was the year of Amy Winehouse (and the big one for Herbie Hancock, who was humorously self-deprecating on Spectacle with Elvis Costello last week).
This year it will probably be Coldplay, a band so horrible that the only good thing about them is that line from The 40 Year Old Virgin. Hopefully Radiohead will nose them out.
The Kings Of Leon CD is what I’m playing the most these days. I know it’s not that new, but my music buying has tapered off in the last year. Maybe I’m finally aging out.
The New York Daily News reports that Ann Coulter is under investigation by the Connecticut Elections Enforcement Commission for allegedly voting in that state while registered to vote in New York City.
Officials are responding to a formal complaint filed by Coulterwatch.com blogger Dan Borchers. “For over 10 years, Ann Coulter has gotten away with illegal, immoral and unethical behavior, ranging from plagiarism to defamation, perjury to voter fraud,” claims the conservative Borchers. Coulter declined to comment, but in the past has branded Borchers a stalker. He says the FBI has determined he poses no threat.

I find myself listening to Muswell Hillbillies a lot lately. Can’t say as I have any idea what’s hot with the kids these days.
I know jazz isn’t everybodies (anybodies?) thing here (except for vern) but I downloaded a beautiful album yesterday
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/dec/19/jazz-review-galliano-rubalcaba-sessions
that is by turns, romantic, technically dazzling and the first accordion music that’s blown me away. I had grown tired of Rubalcaba’s showboating but here it’s put to good use. If you think you don’t like jazz, give this a try.

Wasn’t she also allegedly registered or trying to register in Florida? Jeez, no wonder it’s so easy for the Repigs to steal elections. They vote multiple times, and we idiots only do it once per election.
Had I known, I would have flown to Minnesota last November and helped Al Franken out. He could have been seated in the Senate by now! I feel awful.
😳
I haven’t said much about the Colorado political theatre probably because I just get so down about the disconnect between the desperate arguments that aren’t being made about the future of this imperfect country
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/02/06/senate-cable-stimulus-debate/
and whatever’s being said whether by Senator ‘Sad-sack’ Harry Reid or ‘No,No’ Nancy (impeachment) Pelosi when they are given a chance to bloviate on air. Has there ever been a more useless political leadership “in charge” at a time when strong leadership was needed?
I don’t want to attack ‘Bama so early just because he foolishly thought that winning a clear mandate plus all the superficial attention bestowed on him and his family by the MSM would translate into real political power. Hell I was sure that an intelligent stimulus bill would be passed his first week in office because the thugs were so clearly out of touch with reality.
But now we all have to suffer the consequences of a delayed inadequate treatment of an open wound that the bushevilempire inflicted on all of us, the dems trying to staunch the bleeding and the thugs (like an EMT gone insane) trying to pull off the dressing. But the prognosis for the patient is not good.
What will Colorado have to offer in the way of a solution? Well, Mark Udall is the son of “Mo” who, (when I was working for his nomination in New Mexico,) seemed like a Lincolnesque figure to many of us- great social progressive, wonderful folksy sense of humor, very tall. Mark has the good social policy instincts, but little personality and no apparent sense of humor. He also pretty much supported the Iraq war (with reservations). Dems from Colorado are not real dems- they’re pretty much thug-lite.
I kept expecting Salazar to turn thug just like Ben Night-Horse Campbell did. I think ‘Bama saved him from being a turn-coat by appointing him to Interior. I think he’ll make a good one because in his 2(4?) years in office all I ever heard about him is what he was doing for the ranchers on the western slope and
the farmers on the eastern plains.
Which brings me to Mike (WTF?) Bennett who was appointed by Governor Ritter (another bigtime republican-lite) who was the Denver Superintendent of schools and was on nobodies political radar. Ritter by-passed a lot of good people (the best of which was Andrew Romanoff who was term-limited out of the state senate leadership) just to give a finger to the establishment. Nobody has any idea what Bennett’s going to do. Everyone thinks it has something to do with them both attending the same college. Nothing beats everything else like a fraternity I guess.
Anywho, so far Bennett has voted with the dems so I guess I can relax and not worry anymore about back-stabbing spineless dems acting on my behalf. 🙄
Kings of Leon won this one Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals .
I was going over to a Grammy gathering at a friend’s house after attending the funeral of another friend’s 106 year old great uncle but had him drop me off at home. Glad I did that since it turns out the friend had already lost in her category. However my Cajun pals picked up their 2nd Grammy for an album I have never seen. I think it may only be available as a download. There is something wrong with that.
I’ll have to check out that Galliano/Rubalcaba collaboration. Sounds pretty great.
And yes, pj, Muswell Hillbillies is an awesome and underappreciated Kinks album. The title track has both West Virginia and New Orleans in it.
Plus I can relate to being a slave to Demon Alcohol. :alc:
Blossom Dearie, cabaret singer, dies at 82
🙁 :gate:
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Bishop Nicholas A. DiMarzio of the Diocese of Brooklyn unveiled a proposal on Saturday to convert four Roman Catholic schools singled out for closing into public charter schools, an 11th-hour lifeline meant to preserve the education provided in the buildings and stave off potential overcrowding in city schools.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/08/nyregion/08schools.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaper
Meanwhile, the irreplaceable Bloomie is threatening to lay off 15,000 teachers from public unionized schools, while he finds the money to create non-union charter schools which siphon money from the public schools.

I always got a kick out of “My attorney Bernie” 😆
So next year the Pro Bowl will be the week before the Super Bowl in Miami? Probably a good idea.
Not sure why I am suffering through this Grammy thing.Moved on. I’d love to see Alison get her awards but the performers are awful. Al Green was only on because someone beat up a GF and turned himself in and she bailed. That was one of her best, art.
