I’m pretty sure that human-animal hybrids get better gas mileage, so I don’t know what all the fuss is about. I wonder if we can enlist Bill O’Reilly and John Gibson in the fight against the War on Chimeras?
I’ve got my eye on this cute little half-woman/half-dog (at least, I think that’s what she is) myself. You gotta love those, um, puppies of hers.
I don’t know who the White House entertainment coordinator is, but let’s hope they don’t let Bush trip and watch The Island of Doctor Moreau again. God help us if he gets hold of Doctor Strangelove.

May all your journeys be safe ones.
The “Morning Seditionists” will be eagerly awaiting your safe return home.
The people at DU don’t think the World Can’t Wait Demonstration in DC is going to be very well attended.
I wonder if it finally dawned on people that big Demonstrations with no media coverage are essentially a no demonstration. Last year before the UPJ demonstration in DC someone pointed out that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is a definition of insanity. Is the only solution going to be to leave the country or to stay and live forever bent over ??:rant1:
thanks so much, Isi, and I’ll show mrfarmerkat your post before he heads out the door.
Gallup: Very High Number ‘Proud to be An American’
NEW YORK A new Gallup Poll taken this month shows that despite a range of current concerns fully 85% of adult Americans says they are extremely (59%) or very (26%) “proud to be an American.”
Just 5% answered “only a little” or “not at all.”
Gallup, however, found wide disparity on level of satisfaction with various issues facing Americans. Health care stands out as the most troubling domestic issue, Gallup reports.
Gallup also outlines the splits on controversial issues, such as “acceptance of homesexuality.” It found that 32% are totally satisifed with the current levels of acceptance, 20% want more acceptance and 30% less.

It’s Ann Coulter without her makeup. :rofl2:
Notice how carefully her penis is tucked away. :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
But isn’t Bush a human-animal hybrid himself? Which would make his stance on this issue self-loathing.
When I heard him say it during the speech, I immediately thought of Rick “Man On Dog” Santorum. A bone to throw to the christo-fascists, so to speak.
(Santorum: A frothy mixture of fecal matter and lubrication that is the result of anal sex.)

The Fear That Kills
By Marjorie Cohn, TruthOut.org
Posted on January 31, 2006, Printed on February 1, 2006
http://www.alternet.org/story/31584 /
In a startling revelation, the former commander of Abu Ghraib prison testified that Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, former senior U.S. military commander in Iraq, gave orders to cover up the cause of death for some female American soldiers serving in Iraq.
Last week, Col. Janis Karpinski told a panel of judges at the Commission of Inquiry for Crimes against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration in New York that several women had died of dehydration because they refused to drink liquids late in the day. They were afraid of being assaulted or even raped by male soldiers if they had to use the women’s latrine after dark.
The latrine for female soldiers at Camp Victory wasn’t located near their barracks, so they had to go outside if they needed to use the bathroom. “There were no lights near any of their facilities, so women were doubly easy targets in the dark of the night,” Karpinski told retired U.S. Army Col. David Hackworth in a September 2004 interview.
It was there that male soldiers assaulted and raped women soldiers. So the women took matters into their own hands. They didn’t drink in the late afternoon so they wouldn’t have to urinate at night. They didn’t get raped. But some died of dehydration in the desert heat, Karpinski said.

GOOD MORNING, FELLOW BLOGGERINSPIRATALISTI
Morning Farmerkat, Fred, KevinM, Druid_666
I see we have Gollum George on the front panel with ‘the PRECIOUS’ clutched tightly in one hand. What a fuckin’ maroon!
To the Raleigh News & Observer forum:
Has any seen the video of the FreeLancers shooting up everything on the road as they drove through Iraq for three hours? As for Falluja, don’t you wonder why they might kill people driving through their neighborhood with truck-mounted guns? was it determined that the bastards were NOT shooting at people. You know, the same type of ‘suspected’ people that were shot from the helicopter yesterday.
:jesus: The difference between Democrats and Republicans is the footprints on the Democrats’ asses!
:jesus:
2006: Incumbents should be filling their trousers with butt biscuits!
morning, NCBlue
While I’m at it, they never did publish this letter but they did my bitch against the state turning the interstates in North Carolina toll roads.
Bascombe! How be ye? I be good.
Good Morning.
PJ-I LOVE that picture …and there I was last night blogging endlessly when it came to me that this is really a freakshow…so I ended up on the web searching out freaksites and saving all sorts of pictures…I settled on one that I borrowed from somewhere that is less fabulous than yours here…and youve got that Golum thing going on…but, man, it really is a freakshow….welcome to the big top everybodeeeee…….
I havent even seen the news because I cant bear it, but there is a little blogged blurb on HuffPo that says that if you missed the SOTU speech, all you need to know is that Bush dared us to impeach him.
How can someone lie so much? Co-opt other’s ideas with no real intention of putting them into action? Care so little for the world and our governmental structure?
God Im depressed….
At least there is some sun this morning.
Melina,
I appreciate your stories of all your celebrity run-ins. The story on Bob Woodruff and David Bloom the other day was very perceptive.
Interesting letter from  Cindy Sheehan:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/sheehan/sheehan27.html
The Lew Rockwell site is a bit on the tin-foil hat side of the house, but has some interesing links re civil liberties.
The juries in military courts martials consists of officers. They almost always go with the prosecution. Abolish them!:omg:
Webhubble- do you mean here or on RIPCoco?
I actually had an idea for an RIPCoco post about that and then I was driving around so long that other things happened and it got pushed back.
Strangely too, my ex boyfriend from forever ago is named Bob Woodruff and he is a country singer…and he called me the other night and I said…Bob, they stole your name!!…and now its al out of control!
Good thing he is becoming a producer now because thats a real problem in show biz ;-)Anyway, Im so glad that the other Woodruff is gonna be OK…they think…and we’ll see when hes fully awake. Brain injury is a bitch….and as a representative of what happens over there it would be nice to know how hard this has been for him and his family…and they’ve had the best care!…lets see how it plays out and how he represents the other wounded soldiers. There is an incredibly high incidence of head injury in this war.
Of course we wont think about that with MrFarmerkat on his way….with all of our best luck wishes for safety for him and his co-workers.
Mrsfarmer-Tell Mr to be safe…and to let us Seditionistas know what they need over there so we can send stuff…is he going today?…why did I think it was tomorrow?
Thanks webH for the comment. I am rather new to this blogging and usually have just written for myself and long emails to my friends…so its hard to tell if its interesting or if its just totally deletable. And I get no comments on RIPCoco, so who knows about that? I know a few people are reading it…friends mainly…and thats all I really need…and the papers usually publish some of my shorter letters.
Maybe Ill give this writing thing a shot when I get my son a little more stable in life.
Speaking of FOIL!
Forgive me if you all have seen this!
A friend of mine sent this last night…he knows me…you can tell;-)
I sent it to Rachel because it just seemed so right for her show.
Okay, FINALLY, I have a list of the good senators and links to their email page on my blog if you want to let them know that their efforts were not in vein(vane?)
http://ghostgrrrlinthemachine.blogspot.com/
Krista- Thats great! Thanks…it makes it so much easier.
I am wondering what everyone is thinking about Barak Obama and his wishy washy waffling ways…?
Obama is on the watch list since he’s so new and doesn’t have much of a history yet. Plus he’s cute.
Yeah, but he seems dangerous. He has this middle of the road mentality because he is apparently planning for presidency in 2012. Everything he does is really planned…I dont like him.
So, I was listening to Ed Schultz the other day and he was saying he was gonna try to go to the SOTU and protest by turning his back on the president and walking out. Now, I’ve heard him criticize many forms of protest as being ineffectual before and all I could do when I heard him say that was roll my eyes:roll: in disgust. How is his protest any more effective than anyone elses? He really irks me sometimes.
Yeah, we’re just going to have to monitor his actions. Action speaks louder than words so I don’t listen as much as watch what they do. You can tell so much more about a person by the things they have done.
I dont know much about Ed Shultz…I dont listen to him. When is he on? what station?
He’s on in the middle of they day on various AAR affiliates around the country.
But then I am so fed up with all of these people…mainly because I think that it works so much better with humor. I like Rachel…and other than that I could do with Marc and the Daily Show…
Im tired of the rest of them.
Ive been podcasting alot of tech shows lately…Im a tech geek.;-)
Hey, did you see Keith Oberman’s little bit on O’Really? The Young Turks showed it yesterday. It was HILARIOUS!:rofl2: I think I like him.
We get Jerry and then Al and then Randi here…but Im outside of NYC so we get the full lineup. Im also on XM and they have the same thing. My Mom listens to alot of talk radio and she knows all of the little local shows. Unfortunately, the liberal voice has been largely silenced…in NYC!! Very strange because it is a largely liberal audience. I did find that on Sunday morning when they let our WLIB become it’s black liberal self that Rev. Al Sharpton has a show from 9-10AM. That was pretty cool. I have to see if I can get that on the Replay A/V.
No, I didnt…Im glad you reminded me. I have to find the clip. I love Kieth. I tend to watch him every night these days because regular TV is so horrible.
He is the last bastion of liberals at MSNBC…what a great show! I wish they would rerun it like they do the dail show. I have to find it online somewhere…lets see…
Here we go—-its on crooks and liars
Kieth Olberman on O’reilly
Cool! Thanks, I think I could see it again!
thats funny….I love Kieth…
and O’Reilly should be put on some tiny public access channel where he belongs.
oh melina, your link to the tin foil hat experiment at mit is priceless. i can’t stop laughing. thank you !!!
:rofl2:
Have a great day all you li’l Seditionists! :nixon:
Negroponte is testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee right now on CSPAN (you can watch here, if you don’t have cable or access to a TV). This was scheduled, but the Democrats are reportedly going to take advantage of his visit to push him and his little buddy and principal deputy, Gen. Michael Hayden (who was NSA director when the whole domestic cpygin thing started) on the ignominious NSA spying program.
That’s part of a sculpture (“The Young Family” – the little people/prarie dog hybrids are very cute, too) by an Australian artist named Patricia Piccinini which, in turn, is part of a larger installation called “We Are Family” (Sammy would probably like “Still Life with Stem Cells,” except they aren’t blue).
Hey, don’t take what I say literally.
Wow PJ…I love that stuff and especially what theyre made of: silicone, acrylic, human hair, leather, and timber!!Isnt that great?….I also like the gameboy boys who are old…
Re: Ed Schultz. His show isn’t part of AAR. It’s just broadcast on a lot of AAR stations. He’s left-wing, but he tries harder than most to sound like Rush Limbaugh and as a result he’s annoying to a lot of people. He’s also more middle of the road than most of us like to hear. Personally, I like him most of the time, but that’s just me and I use his show as a source for information. Plus, he’s almost as much fun to listen deal with freepers as Randi is. (He and Randi used to have a really ugly rivalry. Dunno if it’s still on…)
I need to get the vote tally for that budget vote in the House yesterday. I hear 14 Repigs changed their votes (in the good way) after the SOTU. But I don’t have details.
Wow, what a fucking hypocrite piece of shit this Negroponte is. He’s going through how all the South and Central American leaders are so terrible. This from a guy who directed death squads in Nicaragua and elsewhere as ambassador to Honduras.
He just accused Hugo Chávez of the crimes of having an “activist foreign policy,” using the media to spread his message, “meddling in the internal affairs of his neighbors, by backing certain candidates,” and using favorable pay-back rates on oil sales to gain favor with other countries.
That’s all OK when we do it though, isn’t it?
The Bush administration is all for democracy as long as they get to decide who gets elected. Let Venezuala – or Palestine (or Florida or Ohio, come to think of it) – freely elect somebody they don’t like – or who won’t play along with their corporate masters – well, then Democracy aint all it’s cracked up to be.
So then why was it used as domestic surveillance?…if it was not intended for that then why was it used as that??
what a slimeball…how do these guys sleep at night?
I think if I listen to this guy for too much longer, either my head will explode, or I’ll have to take a hammer to the TV.
travis, where are you, i just heard on aar news that a tanker ran aground in cook inlet, isn’t that where you live? 🙁
link
the officials are already parsing words about the tanker that ran aground in Alaska:
are they trying to tell us that although gas/oil was released into cook inlet, they don’t know if any got into the water???:?::?:
here is something fun…Im just running through…have to clear a path in the basement to the furnace so the guy can get to it…eeekkkk!
travis, i just remembered about the augustine volcano near you spewing ash into the air you breathe, and now you’ve got this tanker pouring oil into the water all around you, and you aren’t getting much sunlight this time of year and the alaska temperature is freezing because of course it’s the middle of the winter, and you’re trying to heal after ear surgery, so, hey, take care of yourself, the dark forces seem to be working hard on your corner of the universe.
What! Let me look around and see what’s up. I haven’t heard anything yet.:omg:
oh, yeah that’s great! :40:
This may not be as bad as this or this
aakkkk! i see what you mean. these tanker accidents seem to be happening on a regular basis. :omg:

Well, maybe a little bit.

Dear Friend,
Here’s my vow for 2006:
Don’t trust anyone who’s carrying water for the corrupt Democratic Party.
This often involves the major liberal Democratic Party partisans – including the Progressive and the Nation magazines.
Both supported the Democratic nominee for President in 2004.
And the Democratic candidate represented much of what the magazines stood and stand against, such as corporate globalization and a vote for war in Iraq.
Then, several months ago – fully a year after the election – the Nation ran an editorial titled “Democrats and the War.”
Here is the key line from that editorial:
“We will not support any candidate for national office who does not make a speedy end to the war in Iraq a major issue of his or her campaign. We urge all voters to join us in adopting this position.”
Wow.
And where were you, oh Nation, in 2004? . . .
Ralph Nader
Ralph Nader carried water for the republican party in 2000 and 2004.
Kerry, like the Republicans, supported the Iraq War. Who is carrying water?
Chocolate City?

If you’re looking to understand why discussions between blacks and whites about racism are often so difficult in this country, you need only know this: when the subject is race and racism, whites and blacks are often not talking about the same thing. To white folks, racism is seen mostly as individual and interpersonal–as with the uttering of a prejudicial remark or bigoted slur. For blacks, it is that too, but typically more: namely, it is the pattern and practice of policies and social institutions, which have the effect of perpetuating deeply embedded structural inequalities between people on the basis of race. To blacks, and most folks of color, racism is systemic. To whites, it is purely personal.
These differences in perception make sense, of course. After all, whites have not been the targets of systemic racism in this country, so it is much easier for us to view the matter in personal terms. If we have ever been targeted for our race, it has been only on that individual, albeit regrettable, level.
But for people of color, racism has long been experienced as an institutional phenomenon. It is the experience of systematized discrimination in housing, employment, schools or the justice system. It is the knowledge that one’s entire group is under suspicion, at risk of being treated negatively because of stereotypes held by persons with the power to act on the basis of those beliefs (and the incentive to do so, as a way to retain their own disproportionate share of that power and authority).
The differences in white and black perceptions of the issue were on full display recently, when whites accused New Orleans’ Mayor Ray Nagin of racism for saying that New Orleans should be and would be a “chocolate city” again, after blacks dislocated by Katrina had a chance to return. To one commentator after the other — most of them white, but a few blacks as well — the remark was by definition racist, since it seemed to imply that whites weren’t wanted, or at least not if it meant changing the demographics of the city from mostly African American (which it was before the storm) to mostly white, which it is now, pending the return of black folks. . .

WASHINGTON – Rep. John Boehner of Ohio was elected House majority leader Thursday to replace indicted Rep. Tom DeLay
Who is this ???? Does he have a longer record of ethics violations than Blunt ??
If Ralph Nader had stayed out of the presidential race in 2000 Gore would have won by a large enough margin and the Supreme Court would not have been involved and with Gore as President there would have been no Iraq war. In 2004 the most competent Commander in Chief on the ballot would have been Kerry.
“The reality is that Boehner was THE K-Street candidate:“
Hamas Victory Q/A
by Mitchell Plitnick; Jewish Voice for Peace; February 01, 2006
The stunning victory by Hamas in the Palestinian election has raised many questions. Jewish Voice for Peace offers some answers to help our members and supporters make sense of these momentous developments.
Q: Who is Hamas?
A: Hamas is an Arabic acronym for the Islamic Resistance Movement. Created in 1987 during the first intifada, Hamas was an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, an international Islamic militant group. Hamas is a purely Palestinian group and focuses exclusively on the Palestinian issue.
Hamas’ charter explicitly calls for Israel’s destruction; it bars recognition of Israel and compromise with her. The charter also commits the group to armed struggle and, in describing its view of Israeli and Zionist plans, cites the Protocols of the Elders of Zion (a Russian forgery from the very early 20th century that is the seminal piece of modern anti-Semitic literature) as its source. Hamas has engaged in many criminal acts of attacking civilians.
But Hamas has another side as well. It has established an extensive social services network, especially in the Gaza Strip. Many Palestinians have gotten much more material aid through and from Hamas than the PA over the years. This is a key source of support for Hamas among those who do not share their political, religious or ideological worldview.
Hamas, though certainly bound to a particular dogma, has always shown a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances. In the past, Hamas has refused to engage in Palestinian elections, seeing them, correctly, as products of the Oslo Accords they opposed. But they have obviously changed their views on this point. Even before that shift, there were many indications that, while they may never accept the legitimacy of Israel’s existence, they were prepared to find ways for Israel and Palestine to live together.
The book “The Palestinian Hamas” by Israeli scholars Shaul Mishal and Avraham Sela is required reading for anyone who wishes to understand Hamas. Though a bit outdated (the book was published in 2000), the clarity it sheds on Hamas is still valid. In fact, the way the book battles the simplistic view of Hamas has only been strengthened in recent years—if anything, Hamas has become more adaptable to new circumstances and more open to new ways of doing things than it had been five years ago. . .

Nicki, I didn’t hear Malloy’s show last night, but if it was Busta I’m thinking it may have been “E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event),” from the album of the same name. There are a lot of good tracks on that one, including the duet he did with Janet Jackson whose title I am blanking on right now.
My brain needs :40:
as for as the infamous 2000 election, I think the party to be ticked off at is the Supreme Court, not Ralph Nader. Gore, like most modern dems, was not a strong candidate because he allowed consultants, the DLC types, and probably his (and his wife’s) own centrism to water down and run away from liberal values.
I know that nader is despised by alot of dems. but I despise what modern dems are doing to my beloved old party. :rant1::rant1::growl::spank::spank:
I am suspicious of obama; he seems like he’s already positioning himself in the center for a future presidential run. he voted for so-called “tort reform,” and regularly carries water for the centrists. so his antics on the alito nomination didn’t surprise me one bit.:growl::rant1:
I long for someone authentic–you know, a normal person who has beliefs and isn’t afraid to say them, unlike our mealy-mouthed, blow-dried, consultant driven democratic leadership. :rant1::mad:
ok, I think I have to go watch an old MS or something. I have to stop re-living the alito nightmare……:40::alc:
No, we’re not all alike but we’re all signers on that big checking account that Jews use to control all the money in the world. :rofl2:
So if you’re Marc’s inner girl, will you be my little sister? I’d rather have a little brother but Marc’s never interested when I make the suggestion so I guess my mother will have to settle for yet another girl.
I was all pissed off at Blumenauer for missing the vote on the budget reduction (the one that passed by 2 votes) but it turns out he had a family emergency and, besides, Istook missed it, too, so that canceled out Cong. Blumenauer missing it. So I guess I can’t fault him too much. But the Senate has GOT to kill this sucker! Nearly every program the agency I work for deals with is being cut. I’m a little panicky. :omg::eek:
Dip67, Yep, I despise Ralph Nader’s decision to siphon votes from Al Gore and John Kerry.
Hi everyone…Im emerging from the basement having found my high school year book and assorted clay stuff from my son’s babyhood half eaten by mice…
I hate Ralph Nader…and not only because he screwed up the elections, but because he is such a blowhard, egotistical, asshole. He had a great legacy as someone who did alot of good in the world and he let his palpable anger take control of him.
Its one thing to make a point, its another to agressively destroy the country.
The people I know who voted for him were just not paying attention and doing that “all politicians are alike” cop out. I believe that but some are definitely worse than others. Ralph was not in this because he has a searing desire to do good…he wanted to make a point. And what point did he make? That he is an idiot!
Look, we may talk about being fed up with the Democratic party right now, but not one of us can possibly think that we can elect any third party candidates in any election anytime soon. To support third party candidates is to take the chance of republicans getting into office, and every office counts right now. We are facing life and death regarding the courts, the enviornment, our rights, so all of the nice and fun ideas that we entertained years ago have to go on the back burner while we get things back to the lesser of 2 evils…then we can explore other things.
Of course we have to watch them and fight with them and let them know that they are working for us…but the Dems are the only game in town right now. The alternative is too horrible. And the reality is pretty horrible too.
I think Nader should shut up and go away…I hate him….and Im not interested in anything he has to say anymore.
If the Dems would run a “Malloy-Styled Candidate,” they would not have to worry about Nader. As far as Blaming for 2000, the list should go as:
(In no particular order)
1.Supreme Court Criminal 5. (Before 9/11, there was a movement toimpeach these despicable justices.)
2.Katherin Harris
3.Gore. The 8 million union voters for Bush took way more votes from him than did Nader.
There is more, but I have no time to type.
(Does anyone have a link to the Manson Family’s prosecutor’s [I don’t remember his name. Is it Vincente Bugliosi?) article on the unlawful SCOTUS intervention in 2000?)
We need real Democracy, people. Not two political parties dominated by big money corporations and businesses. :omg::
Melina-It looks like you have bought into the Democratic Party’s definition of Nader. Why don’t you look into what he has been doing lately? In the new century. Don’t merely repeat the mantra that the dems drum into us.
Regarding Marc’s show…I expect that alot of us will have to stream it. I doubt that the NY station is goign to put it on in place of Randi or Jeaneane (who is coming back now that West Wing got cancelled.)
I would hope that they would put it on after Jeaneane, but they wont…isnt that the satellite sister’s slot now?
So, unless its the middle of the night, displacing the local black shows in NYC, I cant imagine that we’re getting it anywhere except for on the weekends.
But with the replay radio thing it should be OK…or the podcasting deal if anyone wants to pay.
Sam Seder said last night that the new video podcasting of his show was a big hit and they are thinking of doing more of it. Well, theyre gonna have to do something special if they are charging that much!
If worse comes to worst we can vine and tree CDs of the shows from those of us with Replay…
I would gladly pay if they video podcast Marc’s show…
If Al Gore would have been as passionate as he has been recently I may have voted for him. But I guess there wasn’t so much to be passionate about then as now.
I don’t think Nader is presidential material. Maybe a cabinet member, but not prez. I really haven’t been paying attention to him.
Well, Ive paid attention to Nader all along and at a certain point he went over the edge into anger and spite.
Because I paid attention to him I pretty much came to where I am on him on my own. The democratic party hasnt told me anything about him…and I dont buy their lines on much.
I am, however, realistic about what has to be done as much as Im not fond of it.
The country has to move left before there can be room for any other ideas to take root. If we end up with another Republican administration there wont be much left to leave our kids. Thats just the truth.
There are a couple of things that I’m not happy w/ Nader about. One is that he did nothing to help build a grassroots Green Party between 2000 and 2004 (perhaps a reason why the Greens didn’t give him their nomination in 2004?), and the other is that he apparently insisted that he wouldn’t actively campaign in close states in 2000, but did so anyway.
Gore would have been much better for the country and the planet had things gone the other way.
I agreed with Nader, however, when he said that the best way for Gore to have won would be to have run a better campaign. Obviously, that goes for Kerry, too.
But it illustrates the conundrum that progressives face. Do we allow Democratic candidates to take our votes for granted while they pander to the right, because allowing the Republicans to remain in control of all branches of government is literally killing us, our families, our planet, and our freedoms? Or do we vote for a third-party candidate that really seems to represent our way of thinking, knowing that – in reality – it will only serve to further entrench the Republicans hold on our government? I wish there was an easy way to answer that one.
In NY, at least, we have the Working Families Party. Their candidate is most often the same as the Democratic candidate, but a sizeable percentage of NY’ers votes on the WFP line – enough so that the WFP can exert a fair amount of influence on candidates hoping for their endorsement.
In the long run, though, what we need is a new party, built from the ground up. Ralph running for president every four years and getting 3% of the vote just isn’t going to do it, and even if he somehow managed to get elected, he would be shunned by both parties (I would love to see the pissed-off look on their faces for four or eight years, though), and wouldn’t get much done (you can only do so much by executive order).
When we finally get a true progressive in the White House, he or she will need the backing of a like-minded congress. I can’t think of any way to bring that about quickly, given our current electoral system – it’s gonna take a lot of years. In the meantime, to a certain extent we need to hold our noses, and vote for whoever isn’t the worst candidate.
Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing progressives single out one high-profile candidate to be made an example of. Joe Lieberman comes to mind. I’d love to see him targeted in the CT primary and in the general election as well. A high-profile campaign to show these traitorous assholes that their actions can be detrimental to their political lives might go a long way toward getting their attention.
That doesnt mean that I dont expect more from the Democratic party. I am hell bent on having them remember what they were supposed to be…and having them start representing the people who elect them.
PJ- I think Lieberman is a great target to set an example…Our meetup hosted Ned Lamont the other night…but I couldnt go unfortunately because I had to take my son to a Dr…anyway, from what Im hearing he seems a like a hopeful candidate and we all want to get Joe out…I am going to work against Joe however I can. But, along these lines, if it was only Joe or the Green party guy or a Republican, I would have to vote for JOe…but I HATE him……
Oh…here is something very important. Our cell phone numbers are about to be available to telemarketers. here is the no call list to sign up for. Ive found the no call list to be great for my land line, so here is the email I got about this:
Information Alert:
Cell Numbers Going Public
JUST A REMINDER, 4 days from today, cell phone numbers
are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to
receive sale calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS!
These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end
up costing you money in the long run. To prevent this, call
the following number from your cell phone: 888/382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of
your time. You can also sign up at http://www.donotcall.gov
It blocks your number for five (5) years.
PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS
GOLDFISH HAVE COLORS! What’s goin’ on, man? Crazy, just crazy. :40:
I have to go watch Malcolm in the Middle.
Here we go….Ned Lamont
So far hes got the right ideas…but there is no complete platform. he believes in good stuff but how will he get it done…? The best thing about him is that hes not Joe!
So, are you sure that the government won’t be listening in on all the numbers they have on a nice, convenient list? I am so paranoid:paranoid:
I’m the only one I know that is dubious about this do not call list. Unbelievable that we should have to sign up for privacy. What friggin’ country do I live in, the United States of Fear? Cripes!
Well, for better or worse, the do not call list has made my life better…so I signed up for it for my cell because I cant imagine that I will have to pay for time for them to try to sell me something.
Im off for tonight…have a good night all you night people…Catch youse tomorrow!
There is more to the Nader/Greens dynamic than people here seem to know. A minority selected Cobb over Nader. A few in the Greens took over. Nader raised big bucks for the Greens after the 2000 election. He drew over 10,000 people to Portland’s Rose Garden in August 2000, each paying $7. Proceeds went to Greens. I will start posting links to material.
If Nader isn’t presidential material, then neither is Bush and Kerry. Nader knows the nature of the corporate beast; Bush and Kerry worship that beast.
Anyway, you are right, in the present paradigm, Nader does not stand a chance of becoming president. Bush! Brain-dead Reagan! Sociopathic Clinton! These are the sorts of options we have in the corporation-dominated culture we live under.
Nader has done more for true democracy in this country than most people I can think of.
one recent example: he initiated a lawsuit that will be argued in the Supreme Court, arguing that the states’ rush to the bottom, offering tax concessions to corporations violates the Commerce Clause. An acquaintenance of mine will be arguing the case this month. meanwhile dems, as well as republicans, nation-wide keep on throwing cash at corporations (despite their slashing of jobs and other such fine conduct).
when the history of progressivism for this pathetic era is written, nader’s name will be attached to more reforms then we can shake a stick at. :spank::spank: no, not THAT kind of stick (I threw that in for you, isi.)
and melina, why would you vote for lieberman over a green party candidate? :omg:I’d forgo voting before I’d vote for such a bush-loving turncoat.
in maine, which has public financing of campaigns, many greens have been elected to the state legislature. so, some states have already started having viable third parties. it may take a threat from a viable third party–in addition to true public financing campaign reform–before the democrats become a true progressive force nationally.
I hope you didn’t have a bad day:growl:
This might take it away.:bong:
haha trav! i felt like that last week when i did a lot of animation and then my computer just froze on me! of course it had been a while since i saved for added fun :growl: so my recent work was gone.
:cry::fustrate::fu:
I have to go watch Malcolm in the Middle.
