OK, so the day is finally here, when we get to see if Ned Lamont can pull off an upset of our pal Joey. I’m sure that Ned isn’t pure enough, left enough, or whatever else enough to make him the “perfect” candidate for many people, but for me (non-CT resident that I am), it has a lot more to do with sending a message to the rest of the Democrats that there are going to be consequences for acting like a Republican for 5½ years, and then pretending to be a Democrat to get re-elected.
Whether it’ll turn out to be any kind of a message, who knows. First off, I’m pretty tired of moral victories where candidates do “really well” and lose. For one thing, I think Joey will take any win (or even a fairly close loss) as a sign of encouragement, and allow him to fashion himself as a hero and martyr, having overcome the forces of the evil blogosphere. He needs to be smacked down hard so as to be totally discouraged from running as an independent.
So, if you’re over there in Connecticut, don’ forget to get out there today and vote for Lamont. Otherwise, Aunt Esther will be around to kick your heathen ass.
Keep your fingers crossed, and have a good Tuesday.

Lebanese officials said there were many reports of other casualties throughout southern Lebanon but rescue workers were not able to reach the sites because of continued Israeli airstrikes. Israel also threatened to attack UN peacekeepers if they attempted to repair bomb-damaged bridges in southern Lebanon. UN officials contacted the Israeli army to inform them that a team of Chinese military engineers attached to the UN force in Lebanon intended to repair the bridge on the Beirut to Tyre road to enable the transport of humanitarian supplies.
According to the UN, Israeli officials said the engineers would become a target if they attempted to repair the bridge.
Senior UN officials reacted angrily to the destruction of a temporary causeway over the Litani river overnight. “We must be able to have movement throughout the country to deliver supplies. At this point we can’t do that,” said David Shearer, the humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon. “The deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure is a violation of international law.”

House Incumbents at Risk, Poll Finds
Most Americans describe themselves as being in an anti-incumbent mood heading into this fall’s midterm congressional elections, and the percentage of people who approve of their own representative’s performance is at the lowest level since 1994, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
(By Peter Baker and Claudia Deane, The Washington Post)

Aug. 7 (Bloomberg) — President George W. Bush’s hopes of attracting a new generation of voters to the Republican Party may be fading, as younger Americans are far more critical of his job performance than the broader population.
A Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll of Americans age 18 to 24 found Bush’s approval rating was 20 percent, with 53 percent disapproving and 28 percent with no opinion. That compares to a 40 percent approval rating among Americans of all ages in a separate Bloomberg/Times poll.
Much like Franklin Roosevelt attracted a new generation of voters with the New Deal, Bush and his administration have had high hopes of drawing younger voters to his party. He has sought to do that through policy initiatives aimed at creating an “ownership society,” and public relations tactics like a Youth Convention at the party’s 2004 national convention, in which his twin daughters took the stage.
Among the initiatives aimed at drawing a new generation into the Republican fold are health-care savings accounts, elimination of the so-called marriage penalty in the U.S. tax code, and Bush’s proposal to create private investment accounts from a portion of Social Security payroll taxes. `Younger Americans really want to see some leadership,” Bush said last year as he launched his Social Security plan.
Instead, the Social Security initiative flopped in Congress after attracting criticism from the public and lawmakers of both parties, and health-care savings accounts haven’t done much to expand coverage, with only about 1 percent of the U.S. population currently participating in them.
Social Issues
Bush’s 2004 re-election strategy also may have damaged his party’s standing with younger voters by stressing things intended to drive religious voters concerned about social issues to the ballot box, such as opposition to gay marriage.
Well the lebanese spokes person is really confusing the Reich wing callers when she says that Hezbollah is not a guerilla force but a third of the lebanese population who resent having israel occupying their back yards .. She flipped off the israeli spokes dork when she came in ..
On Sunday night the Hamas people said the same for the population in Gaza except they said Hamas represented like two thirds of the population there.
Removing either group would be an act of genocide and would require those now drunk European leaders to do something.:eek::eek::eek::yuck::yuck::crap::rant1:
If the platform that I saw on TV at the 2004 RNC convention attracts new voters we have a good case for genocide here.:gate::omg::jason::jason:

Pataki won in 1994, which you may recall was a big year for Republicans in congressional elections (also the year that Ann Richards lost to some fucking moron in Texas). At the time, Mario Cuomo was running for his fourth term, and I think a lot of people were getting tired of him. Also, Cuomo was staunchly anti-death penalty, and the Republicans were able to associate Cuomo with a guy by the name of Arthur Shawcross (aka, the Genesee River Killer), who was convicted of killing a child, but was paroled early. He went on to kill 11 prostitutes. It was all very Willy Horton.
Unfortunately, much as people may bitch, once you get elected, you tend to get re-elected (something like 98% in the US House, and 88% in the Senate – which is one reason why Lamont would be such a big story if he wins today).
Probably the worst NYS governor’s election (involving Pataki, anyway) was in 2002, when State Comptroller H. Carl McCall should have become the first black governor of the state. Instead Pataki won endorsements from teacher’s, some unions – even former (Democratic) Governor Hugh Carey. There was also a fairly nasty fight for the nomination against Andrew Cuomo (one reason McCall was all but abandoned by the Clinton machine; they were tight with Cuomo). Pataki wound up winning in a landslide.
Rest assured that Pataki couldn’t get elected dogcatcher in Peekskill now, which is why he has declined to run again (nobody has much of a chance against NYS Attorney General Eliot Spitzer this year).
We may just have to get rid of those “voters”.. Study the situation in Iraq really closely it may be coming our way ..
I found the poll that showed that 51% of the people polled now thought Iraq had WMD’s in 2003 when we invaded them..and that it was up from 37% six months before,.very disturbing.. The disinformation system needs to be taken out..:gate::omg::jason::jason::jason:
Shultz and Marvin are also spreading disinformation..One thing that a lot of people would think by listening to them is that the country is evenly divided because of the 2004 election where only 67% of the registered voters voted. The thugs only got like 35% of the possible vote..:yuck::rant1:
Sue P , re 41  😉
Pataki and the death penalty…
I remember how that issue was a big deal. They finally got a death penalty bill to pass in Albany. But, they never executed anyone and now the death penalty, once again, has little support in New York.
Ashcroft, at one point tried to insist that the death penalty be sought in federal cases. That didn’t go too well in NY either.
But, we did elect some Repugs in NY. That effort was aided by a really dysfunctional Democratic Party. Giuliani, the most disgusting humanoid, was elected as part of that movement.
As always, when Republicans are allowed to be Republicans, they showed what they were really made of.
By the time Giuliani’s reign of horror ended he could not have won an election for dogcatcher. Only people outside NYC think of him as a great mayor.

So, if Sadam were such a threat, being ready and willing to attack us with his WMD, WHY DIDN’T HE DO IT WHEN WE ACTUALLY INVADED?
COMMERCE CITY – As the numbers on the fuel pump spun toward the 50-gallon mark, trucker Alice Fisher blurted out: “I just got rationed!”
The meter had stopped just shy of 50, at 49.956 gallons to be exact. Because of a diesel fuel shortage plaguing Colorado and elsewhere, the Shoco Oil Inc. station here was limiting certain customers’ purchases.
Credit-card buyers, for example, couldn’t put more than 50 gallons in their tanks. Ditto for customers who weren’t regulars. And those regulars who were behind on their fuel payments weren’t getting a drop.

From DKOS via DU
Here’s why his email is down…
He didn’t pay the damn bill!!!
Update: Can you believe that Lieberman’s site is still down? I wonder if they’re still trying to blame “bloggers” for their inability to pay their bills.
What’s more, check out the URL that joe2006.com resolves to:
server1.myhostcamp.com/suspended.page/
“Suspended”. Accounts are generally suspended for one of two reasons: 1) inappropriate or illegal content (which we can obviously rule out in this case), or 2) from lack of payment. And that would make sense given that the first screen when Lieberman’s site went down was, indeed, a request that the website owner contact their billing department:
Update II: The Lieberman campaign has produced an email from their host claiming the outages came from a DoS attack.
It doesn’t pass the smell test — DoS attacks wouldn’t bring down a site for 18 hours (or however long their site has been down). So it could be their hosting provider is either covering for the Lieberman campaign, or perhaps more likely, it is simply incompetent.
The DoS “attack” may have merely been strong pre-election traffic. Readers of this site know how Daily Kos can grind and even crash on high-traffic days. It happens to the best sites. The trick is to get the site back up ASAP, and that’s what Lieberman’s host appears incapable of doing. I’m doing a bit of digging of my own on this one.

Comment by Melina — August 8, 2006 @ 11:29 am
Did you name the snake yet? If Lamont wins, I mean WHEN Lamont wins, you should name him Joe.
:rofl2:
The snake may slither but he/she can’t be that shifty or slimy. I don’t think it should be named either Joe or George. Rat snake is probably enough of a moniker to bear. :rofl2:
What time tonight will we find out the primary results for Lamont and Lieberman?
Polls close at 8PM.
Gee, I hope Joe got an SLA on his little website. It doesn’t sound like DOS attack, and anyhow, his host – The Planet – should be able to deal with it (no way it should be down for 18 hours; I think somebody deleted all of Joey’s files, and they neglected to have a good backup).
attacks that could be detrimental to your business…..
Perhaps Liebermans has gotten SO close to Bush that he has tasken a page from Carl Rove and decided to hack his own site.
From Daily Kos:
Two posts down it’s clear that Lieberman’s website isn’t suffering from a Denial of Service attack.
But now I have the definitive answer as to why Lieberman’s site went down.
They are paying $15/month for hosting at a place called MyHostCamp, with a bandwidth limit of 10GB. MyHostCamp is currently down, along with all their clients.
Here’s the deal — you get what you pay for. My hosting bill is now over $7K per month. A smaller site doesn’t need that much bandwidth, but if you’re paying $15 because your $12 million campaign is too freakin’ cheap to pay for quality hosting, then don’t go blaming your opponent when your shitty service goes out.
For their part, the Lamont campaign has offered its technical expertise to get Lieberman’s site back up (which could be done in an hour by a competent sysadmin), and has added a link to the googlecached version of Lieberman’s site at the top of their blog.
One side is acting mature, the other is running around making baseless accusations.
Update: Dan Gerstein, Lieberman spokesperson, admits they have no evidence Lamont’s campaign or his supporters are behind their website woes.
I’m telling you, it’s down because they were too cheap to pay for quality hosting. That’s a lesson to all of you campaigns skimping on hosting. $15 won’t cut it.
Update II: Joe’s site shares one server with 73 other sites. They pay $15/month for an overcrowded server, and then they blame others when it goes down? Full list of sites on Joe’s server on the flip.
From Atrios, let’s hope he’s right:
I just talked with Eddie, and he told me that yes, turnout was very high in some places and pretty low in other places. However, he told me, there was a consistent pattern where it was very high in Lamont wards and very low in Lieberman wards. This is not surprising. We have poll watchers all over the place, and canvassers to back them up in those same wards. Lieberman, by contrast, has no one at the polls, has cancelled the rest of his public appearances today, and has invited his supporters not to volunteer, but instead to attend a party at 5pm, during peak voting. Things seem to be going well today for Ned Lamont, and Joe Lieberman is on the brink of a defeat–possibly a defeat that would surpass expectations, thereby finishing Lieberman off.
One side is acting mature, the other is running around making baseless accusations.

Liberal bloggers are likened to right-wing pundit Ann Coulter and disgraced former Senator Joseph McCarthy (R-WI) in a commentary in today’s Wall Street Journal by Lanny Davis, former special counsel to President Bill Clinton.
Davis’ assessment of bloggers was made during time he spent volunteering for Joe Lieberman’s primary campaign effort. Davis describes Lieberman as a “longtime friend.”
Davis cited examples of posts made by sometimes anonymous bloggers at sites like Dailykos.com and Huffingtonpost.com. Examples of blog posts he cited are:
“‘Ned Lamont and his supporters need to [g]et real busy. Ned needs to beat Lieberman to a pulp in the debate and define what it means to be an American who is NOT beholden to the Israeli Lobby’ (by ‘rim,’ posted on Huffington Post, July 6, 2006).
“‘Joe Lieberman is a racist and a religious bigot’ (by ‘greenskeeper,’ posted on Daily Kos, Dec. 7, 2005).”
“Now, in the closing days of the Lieberman primary campaign, I have reluctantly concluded that I was wrong,” Davis wrote about his belief that liberals were not “intolerant and hateful.”

Conyers Releases Massive New Report on Bush-Cheney Crimes
The minority staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, under the leadership of Congressman John Conyers (D., Mich.) just released a staggering report with the hard evidence of crimes and abuses committed by President Bush and his administration (breaking 26 specific laws). This report, “The Constitution in Crisis,” should provide the raw material for numerous news reports and point reporters toward fertile ground for additional investigations.
Please take a look:
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/constitutionincrisis
===============================================
in February 2005 Conyers published a book about the election in Ohio too..It was totally ignored by most of the M$M and most of the left too.
:omg::eek::rant1:
what going on with the majority report is it cancelled or what and if it is cancelled what is replacing it?
Sean: I thought you just had the AC fixed..You would think when you pay what you do for one of those truck tractors you would get something that lasts forever.. :alc::roll::eek:
Sam said last night he didn’t know what was going to happen yet .. AAR apparently hasn’t renewed his contract yet.:rant1:
Make no mistake about it; Rick Santorum is a monstrosity. Given his record as a pro war, anti-choice Senator it might be supposed that if the Democratic Party wished to defeat him they would have given the people of Pennsylvania a candidate that was significantly different. Instead, their pro war, anti-choice candidate is now faced with a real alternative to Rick Santorum; a pro-choice, antiwar Green who would be supported by an overwhelming number of Democrats. The Democratic Party simply doesn’t care about getting rid of Rick Santorum. The contest between the Democrats and Republicans is no more significant than an intramural softball game. Everybody’s really on the same side after all when the game is over. This is why the Democrats did nothing about voter fraud in Florida in 2000 and nothing about Ohio in 2004.
The Pennsylvania Democratic Party doesn’t really mind if it is beaten by a Republican. But if the Republican wins because a real progressive received a significant number of votes, that is a real defeat. The Democratic Party in Pennsylvania is cornered again just as it was cornered by Ralph Nader in 2004. The Democratic Party demonstrated quite dastardly in 2004 just how it behaves when it is cornered.
It is long past time to give up on the Democratic Party. The creation of the DLC (Democratic Leadership Council) as the representative of corporate America within the Democratic Party coupled with the addictive influx of corporate funds has caused the Democratic Party to replace the voter as its constituency with the lobbyists of the corporations that have financed its election campaigns.

Yeesh. Thanks for the story link, Fred.
The only way to go back to two parties is to get the money out of campaigns, get the media monopolies broken up, provide the congress dorfuses with certain disincentives so they will get removed from office in less than two or six years if they fail to represent the voters either though recall procedures or special elections. caused by their demise… unfortunately the only way to do this is by having them do it so it will either not happen or will happen only by the applied use of :gate::omg::jason:
Revisionist?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/08/07/AR2006080701359.html
Current Pennsylvania law makes it difficult for independent and minor party candidates to appear on the ballot — much more difficult than in most other states. The result is less political competition, less political dialog, and fewer choices to vote for in November
…which is no doubt part of the reason the two Republican senators they currently have got in… how did Pennsylvania get so fucked up?
With the thugbots running more than half the state governments they will do anything they have to stay in power..I don’t think that thought pattern includes any thoughts about what to do if the voters start using the thugs as “targets”:rant1:
Yeah, it’s interesting. myhostcamp.com is one of these places that buys web space from another host (in this case, from theplanet.com), and then resells the space to other people (I did that myself, for a few years). So I wouldn’t be surprised if myhostcamp didn’t pay their bills, and got all the sites they host shut down. It could also be that they exceeded their bandwidth allotment. You’d think somebody running for US Senate would do a little better than that. Can’t tell who registered myhostcamp, ‘cuz they registered it using godaddy’s domains by proxy “secret” registration, but I’ll bet it belongs to one of Joe’s staffers or a staffer’s relative who saw a way to make a buck, and got in over their heads.
Both M$RNC and CNN have apparently been broadcasting the thought that Lamont’s campaign people had caused Lieberjerks web server to crash. Nothing like making the challenger out to be a doer of dirty deeds while the voting is still going on..I can’t wait until the Nov elections :yuck::rant1::eek:
According to Kos, Lieberman paid 2 Dog Media to do his web stuff, so maybe they got him a “deal” on hosting.

The Courant has it…not News 12, even though they are there!!
I hate this local news. The reporters there could be a local teenager, really…..
Theyre always wandering round asking directions and if I know of any news…
Well….Im depressed….
Well, the rural areas report last…and those are likely Lieberfuck’s…..
I wanted a landslide….Just to send a message.
Have Faith Melina. Maybe Druid will cast a spell or something.
Trouble in New Haven with voting machines and Malloy is screaming for an immediate investigation! I guess that the workers loaded the paper trail wrong and it went off track and didnt print correctly…..
Its great that everyone is so knee jerk abotu everything. I hope we can keep this spirit for the mid-terms and beyond!
I got another tape call from Lieb today telling me that hes really against the war…(it was all an act?)…or hes seen the light in the past week or so….

well, alot of the results are in and Ned is still ahead.

Mike Malloy just said he has not been told whether he will be part of the move to the new station. He said if he is not part of the move he will have to rethink the whole radio thing.
I always liked Malloy, but I lost interest in AAR after Maron left.
How can they get rid of Sam and Malloy???
What is wrong with AAR?
I think that Joe crashed that website on purpose just to put the spotlight on himself!
Comment by Melina — August 8, 2006 @ 10:01 pm
:yuck:Its amazing how CNN describes Lamont a “neophyte” “self funded multimillionaire”:barf:
AAR is being dismantled. You do not really think that the NeoCons and the MultiNationalCorps will allow dissent do you? Thats why Maron walked the plank first. I hear Mike Myers came up with the idea of Fat Bastard by listening to Ed Schultz.
Woah, isi I missed that. Mike said he might not be on tha air anymore?
89%: 51.6 to 48.4
Andy, Mike had a caller that asked him when AAR makes the move from WLIB to the new station will he then be on the air in NY (right now you have to stream his show in NY). He said he can’t get an answer from management.
:billcat: Air America Radio Management

Thanks isi, I’ve got to stream everything since there’s no AAR station in Philly.

Yeah! Melina:bow::bow::bow::bow:

Lieberman has conceded with the most ungracious speech.

well, joe is definitely gonna run as an independent…but Clinton etc…all have already come out against his indy run…everyone will support Ned now…and the dems will support him from their offices!
Finally some good news!!! :alc: :fire:  :nixon:
Lieberman is an asshole…I hope he keeps it up. His Bush-like attitude is just so telling.
I guess that his paid supporters will be happy to still have jobs.
Did lieberman say in his speech he’d run as an independent?
Yay Ned! Looks like Cynthia McKinney needs a new job.
Connecticut showed PEOPLE POWER today. I hope other states follow their lead. Congratulations Melina. Night all.
I guess the next time Bush tries to kiss him, Lieberman will just blush and turn aside.
obama, feingold, Clinton(s), Lautenberg are all on board right away….bayh, dorgan and DODD, still not on board…
If Dodd screws this up he may have to go next…and hes really good.

Ned gave such a great speech….he is the real deal, and he is genuinely someone who likes the average person…so he will do very well serving the people as opposed to some high falutin idea of being a fancy pants.
MOntana state university has lost all of those Egyptian students…11 whole people just disappeared!

moonlightman I am happy if this is truly Marc,
but sad cuz I thought you were truly a magical mystery man. I know you are also a Libra Love
I am soooo gullible(sp) — hook, line, and sinker
:love::cry: Dramatis Personae
Bloody “L”
I am not Marc. I could not resist myself. Sorry Folks. I know it was fucked, but you did set me up.
How do I know that Moonlightman isn’t a Trojan horse or something. Prove it, Maron!
See, I knew it. :40:
Maybe I should bake a pie for the show…a nice cream pie…
Did I tell you I used to bake pie at Block’s in Seattle -the graveyard shift. Until we signed union cards and got locked out. My young rabblerouser days.
:knit:
Travis come back and say good night. :alc:
Yeah but you had us all aglow MrMoonlight.
I shall remember you always:jerk::spank:
If or not Marc It is perfect Humour but I could have also been Earled or WhatEver…who knows but it reminds me… one does not know who one is talking with… I am having my kind of SpeedBalls Tea (with honey) and a Margarita(s)
All is forgiven.
Now you are again shrouded in mystery for Druid:banana::banana:
And, well I can have my fantasy life.
Ok my WORK is done now I can pack.
I am truly sorry. I am a bit of a practical joker and I could not resist. You people here are such good folks I could not bear to “play” any longer. I would tend to think that Jim and Marc peruse this blog often. I accept the :spank:
At least one thing we have in common here is a rich sense of humor.
Glad you liked your :spank:
:hubba:
Hey speaking of :spank:
where is Nicki and SusieJoy?
Moonlight Man could be a 12year old girl:omg:
They’ve already dominated the blog, so I think they moved on or something
I truly do not think he is Marc or Earl, since he did give me a :pent: and he knew what a Druid is.
But it made this distrustful chic remember why “I Believe No One.” said as Col Klink.
Well I could be but I am not.:yawn: It’s late. Goodnight Sheeple.:sheep::fire::fire::fire:
We want some dirt Mr. MAN! Throw it down!
Ok Travis..well I will see you soon. Instead of pie I’m going to take my favorite highway inland #38 and look at all of the Elk at the Elk viewing area.
OK. Cool. Take pictures
Hey I know what a Druid is why wouldn’t Marc know?
I’m just sayin..
goodnight, people:yawn:
Good night Dear Druid and Be Well. Thanks for all your help with the Ned deal:nod:
Travis- I’m gonna have to knit you a late night blogging hat if you keep this up:knit: Go Inside!
I’m goin’, I’m goin’
sblueheron He did it in certain ways and at certain times and said things only a Magic Man can say
but as Travis said
(dude) MoonLightMan, “Time To Throw It Down”
Night All, SBlueHeron and Travis … I want to talk to you about “tent” concepts 😎
:knit::yawn::gate:Pleasant Dreams
But I am Hear/Here with a drink (almost) :alc: 😉
I just remembered more work to do here so I can’t go yet.
sblueheron re 371 :knit: and to you. 😉

MoonLightMan, MoonLightMan Come In Please:?: I won’t bite, much Bwah HaHa
Just One Question:wink:
Is Lieberman going to pull a Nader so that the Republican wins?
I worry.
I know many are wondering. He said he would, but good thing is ALL DEMS will stand with Ned. They (the ol’ dems) just need to Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid. Cuz a SeaChange is heralding.
So anything new on the K. front?
MoonLightMan, MoonLightMan Come In Please I won’t bite, much Bwah HaHa
Just One Question :nod: :wink::omg:
MoonLightMan, I hope you got to see the Moon on the Fullest Night:banana:
And SBlueFox, Nighty Night and after this week (except for K) I hope to write some e’s 😉
Neil Cavuto: Well, a lot of people have. There was that Rabbi who suggested that maybe Mel Gibson should apologize to his congregation on Yom Kippur.
Jackie Mason: You know why? Because nobody knows who this Rabbi is. Who cares who he is? All of the sudden he becomes a producer. All of the sudden he’s producing a show with him and Mel Gibson. He’ll become the star of the show. Then you’ll see it in the newspapers, “Starring Rabbi Schwartz with Mel Gibson”. He’ll get second billing, because it’s another Rabbi looking for attention. They decided they’re the judge and jury of this whole situation. They’ve become a personal mafia now. Because who knows who they are, who would pay attention to them? Foxman and this other guy are loving it. They’re threatening him everyday about how he should apologize…
Cavuto: Jews who are speaking out against… There are some Jews who aren’t in that camp who are legitimately offended. You say they should get over themselves?
Jackie: They’re nuts if they’re offended. His life has been a mecca of decency all of his life. He never afflicted a Jew in his life personally. How a guy lived for fifty years is what should count, not one remark when you’re drunk. He never joined a club that was anti-Semitic. He never refused to give a guy a tip at a restaurant because he found out he was Jewish. His house doesn’t have a sign in front of it that says ‘no Jews allowed’. What did he ever do that was anti-Jewish in his life? A whole 50 years of decency doesn’t count because you made one remark? Now they say apologize, but he didn’t apologize enough. He should apologize a little higher. He should apologize in the morning, he only apologized at night. …. He was apologized but he was sitting… He should have got a note to apologize… He should apologize at least two more times, four times, thirty-two… now they want him to get circumcized
:omg::omg::nixon::peace::jesus:
