The end of a mighty long week. This will be a good one to get over. I just can’t wait to get to the end of the day, and then spend maybe two or three days in bed. Such is the fantasy life of an oldtimer, I guess.
Of course, the really big news is the premiere of the final season of Battlestar Galactica tonight. Oh, I know, you more serious folks find this kind of tripe ridiculous (we should be talking about the issues; we’re fighting for our lives, here), but to simpleminded folk such as myself, this is a pretty big deal. I’ll have to record it, though, since I don’t know if I’ll be able to stay up that late.
First things first, though. Time to get today over with.
I will ask, though, if Randi had called Obama a big fucking…well, you know what, would her suspension be thought of differently? I suppose you can tell me that being called a big fucking whore isn’t as offensive as being called a big fucking n-word, but then I guess that would mean the issue wouldn’t be censorship so much as degree of offensiveness, which is kind of a bullshit argument, IMHO.
I also think doing an official appearance on behalf of your employer is different from doing a stand-up routine on your own, or even writing something for your own personal website or an opinion piece that has nothing to do with your employer.
I could write that I think Clinton is a Rovian whore here, for example, but if I were to give a presentation at work or sponsored by my employer, I think I’d be expected to tone it down a bit.
Vernon, about your #70 from Thursday. I will gladly email that document to you from home. I don’t have it with me at the moment. Would you like that in Word or text? Long version (8 pages) or short version (5 pages) or both? The long one has more destructive examples in it. If you want to post or publish it go right ahead.
What I want is to see those people responsible for screwing up our country over the last 40 years held accountable for their actions. Just having the head of the FAA say he takes repsonisbility for his department’s screw-ups isn’t enough. They have a nice, warm cell for him in Guantanimo Bay.
Mark me down for Beta!
:billcat: I haven’t listened to :rant1: i in ages. When did she fall out of love with the Clintons โ
:tap: :tommygun: :penguin: :reaper:
I don’t listen to her much, either. She certainly seemed to be a Hillary fan, and then she switched somewhere along the line. I think it may have been over the super delegates, or perhaps when Clinton started praising McCain as a better presidential candidate than Obama. Or maybe with some of what Bill was saying for a while there. Either way, she definitely fell out of love with at least Hillary, if not Bill.
Funny thing is, I think the super delegates will be a moot issue, since they seem to be jumping over to the Obama camp now.
However, IMHO, anybody who thinks that McCain is a better – or even equal – alternative to either Clinton or Obama is blind, and anybody that would vote for McCain (or not vote at all) because “their” candidate didn’t get the nomination (or because they are annoyed at either the Obama or Clinton ‘true believers’ – and I get mighty irritated with both) is a petulant fool.
You’re lucky PJ. I have to wait for the final season of BG to arrive on DVD before I can watch it. No spoilers till then please.
The biggest irony in this whole RR fiasco is not that she essentially got fired over insulting some “honorable” politicians, but that DICK CHENEY does the same thing in the halls of CONGRESS and gets off scott-free.
And the latter was not supposed to be comedy.
As Death Cheney would say … so what.
I forgot, I became an “official” geezer the other day. AARP sent me a membership application in the mail. I’m trying not to let it get me down.

Sounds like Maddow will be subbing for KO tomorrow night.
Comment by vernon รขโฌโ April 3, 2008 @ 9:26 pm
Last night on his show, KO asked Rachel, “Are you ready for tomorrow night?” Which I took to mean that maybe they’re announcing that she’s getting her own show on MSNBC. I might just be thinking wishfully, though.
Listening to Randi’s “standup” right now. Some of it is actually pretty good. Of course, that’s what people are saying about Rev. Wright’s speeches, too.
:rofl2:
I think that what Randi said, at an employer sponsored function, was inappropriate. But, a one day suspension would probably have been sufficient.
I say that with sadness, as I love listening to Sam, but I can only take Randi in short, infrequent moments.
Congress is an employer-sponsored event and we are the employers, so by that logic, Dick Cheney should be suspended indefinitely for using bad words in the hallowed halls.
Sorry I’m off topic again, my climateprediction.net work unit is finally finished after 2364:53:30.
Hillary is supposed to be on Stephanies show but no one believes she will show.
The Mountaintop
I’d agree with that. Of course, I think he should be hog-tied, frog-marched out the door (if it’s possible to be frog-marched while hog-tied), and thrown in prison (preferably renditioned to Syria for interrogation before being dumped at Git’mo and left to languish without benefit ouf legal counsel or any other outside contact).
Well I just listened to Randi’s standup on youtube and other than it was a company sponsored event, so what. We’ve all heard much worse from the right and those guys get make a living at it.
Fianlly on topic.
NCBlue, both versions. Bring it on! I would have asked for permission to quote or use so thanks.
re RR, well it just did not seem so wrong if you were in the room. Technically it was not employer sponsored, it was a Green 960 (Clear Channel) event and they have been supportive. They were the ones who originally posted the unexpurgated 20 minute video from which the YouTube was apparently culled. What makes me sad is that the full length video with a split second appearance of a balding, graying guy toward the end has been taken down for now. It gives more context.
It was a private event (admission $5), she was doing entertainment and commentary, and she was actually funny. She was reading her material from a notebook almost Bush style (ever notice that his speeches are in notebooks that must have no more than three words on a page?) She wasn’t drunk, the station manager was enjoying himself more in that regard as was most of the crowd :alc: :40: :bong: . The event was held on Broadway in North Beach where Lenny Bruce and Mort Sahl and Bill Cosby and Shelley Berman and Carol Doda made their bones so maybe it was the air. :boobs:
I am glad for more chances to hear Sam Seder who’s BS is just a hair below Maron in my pantheon, excellent in its own way, but I hate to see AAR do this sort of thing again. Maybe they are just being kind enough to quickly douse any flicker of hope some of us may get when they hear of any ownership changes. Seder’s star there might be rising at AAR at the worst possible time.
(add) I may be too :tinfoil: but I do feel Clintonista involvement in this and also maybe a possibility of a publicity stunt or contractual maneuvering.
I don’t care if Hill’ry shows up on Stephanie. I can’t wait for Jesse Ventura.

Let’s take the Way Back Machine:
Part I
FROM THE BEGINNING I Had Been probably the Most ardent fan of Randi’s. Dear Fred & I had our first “battle of many” Thus henceforth, Sir Fred coining the phrase Ms :rant1: .
Part II — The Divide
not When she did not like Hillary, that would have been fine if there were several ardent Hillary HATERS…I could have dealt with that; however, 99.9% of the “shows” on AAR & Nova M where JUST Obama Fans and very much the Hillary haters.
Young and older women and LUCKILY some wonderful men have been saying similar as me (but I always the Gore luv’r) came from the Edwards camp and again, so wrongly given to choose: Nuclear Whore Obama or Wrong-Speak, (mockingly) “under terror shots Hillary” Whore — the choice is yours.
AAR & Nova & the media ONLY always makes Hillary the Bad. (I to see a satire of that. :rofl2: perhaps) SHE IS DAMNED IF SHE DOES AND DAMNED IF SHE DOESN’T.
Sadly I have to deal with this now. Many luckily’ 1/2 of the Dems see the gambit. She is being WRONGED, this I know — make mental note: my microcosm of the very same thing to macrocosm of Hillary’s battles. As with schooling & philosophy & religion it is not always the final goal (for me it is) that is The Prize, it is the Journey getting there.
I let Randi rant on a for quite awhile then as of February the intensity of the attacks from Obama folk (not even regular media) and media (AAR & Novo M) that was also suppose to represent those as me. I do not believe in anyone and now to tell me to embrace one who stands for the OLD way of thought i.e. Nuclear dependency …(now your camp is “forcing” her to come out proNuke ….but hopefully she will change back when she is President).
(Reminds me of an ol’ Si/Fi movie.) ….Continues….
Randi
Submitted by SEDER on Fri, 04/04/2008 – 1:15am.
I’ll be filling in for Randi again tomorrow and maybe a couple of days next week. I spoke to Randi today before subbing for her. I’m not going to characterize her feelings- it’s not my place to do that.
It’s true that I feel Randi has taught me nearly all that I know about radio and consider her a friend but that hasn’t affected my perspective on this.
Personally, I think this is ridiculous. That said, I do believe that the network has the right to take issue with it.
It’s a stand up routine- and it offended none of the people who paid to see it…. No one else had to watch that tape – it wasn’t presented on the airwaves, etc etc….Would I have used the words she did, no, but I can’t promise that they would be any less “offensive”.
Anyway, I have no idea how long the suspension will be or when we will know or why it’s not set. I’m willing to sub for Randi but I don’t like the circumstances. I certainly don’t want someone sitting in her seat who’s going to be a management toady.
UPDATE: support randi here feedback@airamerica.com
The Boxer :slap:
Does anyone remember that FIRST wonderful Gay sidekick of Randi’s which SHE either fired or “took off air” since he did what– which is NO DIFFERENT than MOST MEN Here (&and a bit me and a few females)?
BTW the answer to quiz I was asking: He was born on the 14th of October, (same year as my Grandfather) Dwight D. EISENHOWER CAME FROM BEHIND, as Hillary, AND WON THE republican Nomination in 1952 — she winning for DEMS! :pirate: :yippee:
Dwight and I have much in common and he has been one of my REAL ICONS since in grammar school — with difficulty , since I LOVE Carter so. ….A!I!
I don’t much care for Randi. Got sick of her quite a while ago. She may be the biggest ratings draw AAR has, but that just makes her a big fish in an ever-dwindling pond. She is, by and large, irrelevant to most of America.
I’m not convinced Obama is the messiah. He’s too far to the right for me. Clinton has disappointed me regularly and repeatedly. She’s too far to the right for me.
It was all I could do to pick somebody to vote for in the NY primary, is how strongly I (don’t) feel for either one of them. My wife couldn’t bring herself to vote at all.
Having said that, there is almost no difference between Obama and Clinton on nukes. Virtually no substantive differences between Clinton and Obama on any issues, frankly. I looked pretty hard, and I found almost nothing. A couple quibbling things that mostly won’t make any final policy differences at the end of the legislative process.
I don’t hate Clinton for what I perceive to be slights to Obama from her supporters. Neither do I hate Obama for what I perceive to be slights to Clinton from his supporters.
I do think the Clinton campaign has acted in a very Rove Republican way as it has become more desperate.
As always, just my humble opinions.

Probably said this before.
I disliked Ike literally from almost the day I was born. When I was wee and could not even speak, people could come up to me and ask “You like Ike?” and I would shake my head and later say “Nope”. I was a Democratic trained seal.
Once he was elected that all stopped out of respect to his office. Stevenson would have been another great president who ended up never being president.
Thanks, Ike, for the Fifties and that gift that keeps on giving, :nixon: No more war heroes, please.
Thank You for The Boxer…
Paul Simon is a Libra also… :rofl2:
Why did I look to soooo many Libras? Since a “young” youth I started realizing that MOST family did not believe as me.
I needed ICONS & mentors to guide me in my aging so I picked different aspects (shards) to The Whole (The Crystal).
CARTER was/is my HERO, and Major Guide. He amazes me even today, as I look up to him to guide me in my actions — A Grand gentleman, a true statesman, a healer, and leader. I knew the Solar Panels on WH roof was symbolic — but it was Lighting The Way — Onward to the Future … and I knew when the MASSES wrong votes got us to today into Darkness — save for Clinton. HILL IS KNOWN TO BE MORE LIBERAL also & is better regarding animals and children and life.
(Granted “Ike” was a republican but he was FAIRER than most! ALSO a come from behind winner, as Hill.)

Male rock fans likely to vote Republican: survey
Frankly, Randi has spoken often of late about her distress at
the tone of the campaign and the division within the Democratic Party the Obama/Clinton contest is causing. In that context, her choice of
words was unhelpful.
Knowing Randi, it’s possible they were spur-of-the-moment. She often behaves as a stand-up comic but doesn’t acknowledge that
she is trying to be one. An acknowledged comic would have probably been given a little more leeway.
I think it’s strange that it took AAR 2 weeks to make something of this. But Randi has been dropping hints in the past couple of weeks that she had some trouble with the network folks (of course, her listeners are never sure what’s she’s referring to and because of that, I find these unexplained asides irritating). AAR needs a conduct policy that is clearly understood and enforced for everyone. An indefinite suspension doesn’t seem like a clear policy – it seems like a fight with Randi.
Malloy had lots to say about this last night. It allowed him to air all his old grievances about AAR while standing up for Randi. But
while being very supportive of Randi, I don’t think he knows anything more about it than anyone else does. Randi’s old pal Mr. Manzo is at Nova M these days – I have often wondered if she
would follow him.
Finally, I really don’t care for casual cussing. There’s something to be said for old-fashioned manners and the social lubrication they
provide. We just lost a popular HS Principal in my town who was known and loved for many talents but most of all for the respect and consideration he offered to everyone, from Superintendent to truant. One thing I love most about Maron is his ability to use nuanced language to express precisely the essence of the thing – I don’t need all the f-bombs and wish he’d cut back on them.
So, can’t we all just get along?
So did Hillary call in to Stephanie’s show? I had a meeting at 11:30 and missed the last half hour.
Clinton might be “known” to be more liberal, but an examination of their voting records shows them to be almost identical.
As for Jimmy Carter, well….
They might be the same. It is all about what they represent in hearts and minds and Hill’ry will be stuck where she is now ongoing. She is stuck in the mud and throwing it to win at all costs.
Obama has a lot of possibility for growth.
Kevin, she was a no show. Probably just a scheme by SM to falsely establish her balance bona fides and discredit Hill’ry in the end.
:fustrate: :fustrate: :fustrate:
From that audio clip it sounded like Randi maybe had one to many :alc: :nixon: .
Much as you like to hurl that one, fred, I don’t think so.
I have returned with people that also believe in the same way as I do…giving me a reminder and put the AIR back in my Sail.
Whatever ,,, just reminds me of further things I have to add to My List…
Thank you for speaking about that article regarding Jimmy
(Note to self: make copy of article regarding Carter, then………but first get TEA) …A!I! Let’s Get This Party Started … PINK LIVE
I don’t think you can tell a thing about how “liberal”: a candidate is by their voting record since 90% of the time the legislation gets shot down before it ever passes through the system ..and most often the politician is aware of how likely the bill is to pass.. In Hillary’s case as of lately she seems to be conveniently absent when important things come to a vote :reaper: :reaper: .
Obama’s campaign at least has tried to steer away from financing by lobbyists. and corporate CEOs.. Hilliary on the other hand is a DLC democrat and that translates into rethug lite . :slap: :slap:
I think that todays politicians are there merely to shovel as much $$$ as possible into their hip pockets or purses as the case may be ..Remember that the politician gets to keep any unspent campaign funds :yuck: :crap: The rest is just a show to make the IDIOT MORONs see what appears to be something happening.. while things just get worse and worse .. :reaper: :reaper:
The Reich wing radio drive time shows last night made good use of Randi’s comment .. .. See.. even the liberals see Hillary our way .. :reaper: :reaper:
Alas, the way our legislators vote is one of the few ways we have of objectively evaluating their performance, relative to our wishes. One vote in isolation is of course not necessarily telling, so many of us rely on various interest groups (environmental, labor, etc) to provide overall ratings. A 76% v. 67% on, say environmental issues is small. But 0% over a 25 year career is rather indicative of at least something. Of course, one can always go with ‘they all suck,’ but that doesn’t seem particularly useful for much of anything.
It’s kind of like arguing about where the deck chairs are positioned.
Fred, that is exactly the problem with these ad hominem attacks by liberals of liberals. The Right makes good use of them while the Dems alienate each other.
We are talking about politicians, not religious saviors. They are, each and every one of them, imperfect. They operate within a system that requires the raising of great amounts of money, so they must pander and obfuscate. Waiting for the perfect one, with the shiny morals and truly liberal agenda, is unlikely to be rewarded.
And, yes, inevitably, we will be faced with electing the lesser of two evils. But, not making that choice and allowing the greater of the two evils to be elected, has too many real world consequences to be an acceptable stance.
Or the evil of two lessers.
A letter has been sent by leaders of the House Judiciary Committee to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, demanding that he explain a recent public statement that federal authorities failed to intercept a call from suspected terrorists in Afghanistan prior to the 9/11 attacks, when doing so could have prevented the attacks from taking place.
Mukasey blamed that failure on a lack of the sort of warrantless wiretapping authority
snip
a mention (was found) in the Congressional report of a call from one of the 9/11 hijackers which could have easily been intercepted, except that “consistent with its focus on communications abroad, NSA adopted a policy that avoided intercepting the communications between individuals in the United States and foreign countries … even though the collection of such communications is within its mission andit would have been possible for NSA to obtain FISA Court authorization for such collection.”
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Top_Democrat_asks_Attorney_General_to_0403.html
I just checked the Stephanie Miller website. They’re apparently hoping Hillary will call in sometime next week. Screw that… Mama should talk to Randi instead.
Does Jones Radio have an afternoon show since they moved Ed Schultz to midday? That would be perfect for Randi… same hours, she could presumably do the show from West Palm if she wanted (I’m assuming since Schultz is in North Dakota), and she could cannibalize AAR for listeners. Sweet revenge.
Sure, it would suck for whoever gets the slot on AAR, especially if it ends up being Sam, but I think a lot of people on this blog are pretty much over AAR already. I know our illustrious blogmaster has been for some time.
If Randi ends up leaving, and KO announces tonight that MSNBC is giving Rachel a show, I’m done except for Sam.
Maybe I should whip out my DVD of Left Of The Dial this weekend, and remember what once was and ponder what could have been.
Yeah Kevin I was thinking of doing that same thing…I have never watched it with the Randi and Marc commentary. :cat:
I will try to blog and take some live photos at the show tonight.
It won’t be the same without the old gang. :knit:
I was thinking of giving Marc a bottle of vitamin D but then I remembered he lives in CA

Watch Katrina vanden Heuvel this Sunday morning, April 6, on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos. The program airs at 10:00am in many places but broadcast times vary by city so check local listings or the show’s website to confirm air time in your area. The Nation’s editor and publisher will be part of a media roundtable with Dan Senor, Cokie Roberts and George Will.
Three against one. Sounds like a fair fight to me. ๐ก
Not to mention that one of the three, right-wing tool Dan Senor, not only married my one-time future wife Campbell Brown, but impregnated her with his Fox News demon seed.

All I can say is that the AAR blog is full of pissed off Randi fans. I never have time to listen to her, but when I did, I liked the anger. I disagreed with her talking over the idiots, I thought that was just as bad as the Rushies. I still liked her anger.
I can only hope that Sammy gets his daily show back.
