Today’s the day we’ve all been waiting for (OK, well, maybe it’s just me) – the nationwide premiere of “The Express.” I’ve mentioned it before and won’t bore you all again with it, except to say that the movie is about the first black man to win the Heisman Trophy, and the release seems rather well timed.
With any luck, in less than a month we’ll see the first black man (even if he is more “mocha latte” than black) elected President of the United States.
Granted, it should have happened a lot sooner. It took white folks in this country about 95 years after the end of slavery to be sufficiently unintimidated enough to “allow” a black guy to be recognized as the best college football player in the country. And it’s taken another 57 years to bring us to the point where we might just be able to elect one president.
In fact – if we can be honest here – the only way in hell that Barack Obama won’t win in November will be if racism wins instead. I know Obama isn’t the perfect liberal, but let’s face facts here. McCain is a dangerous moron who’ll more than likely drop dead before his term is up, leaving us with an even bigger (and more dangerous) idiot in Sarah Palin. All at a time when this country is more fucked up in every way imaginable than it has ever been. I don’t know if Obama can fix things (I don’t know if anybodycan), but you’d have to be a bigot (or a damn fool) to think that John McCain can.
It’s just too bad Obama didn’t go to SU. It would’ve made for a better movie. They could’ve called it “Obama/Biden – the Boys from Syracuse.”
Yesterday’s maron v maron was the kind of show I’ve been waiting for. I’m not sure how much sammie brings to the table. 49 minutes of pure marc was a delight. Also, how great are we as fans since we forgot to wish Marc a happy :cake: ? (sept 27th)
:fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire:
WTF? I tuned in to MVS yesterday at 3 PM and the site was down. I came back 15 minutes later and they were re-running the show from Wednesday with Sarah Silverman. I thought it was a Yom Kippur thang, since Sam had already announced he was taking Thursday off. Again, WTF? Is it just me?
From today’s NY Times:
To the Editor:
As the lead federal prosecutor of the Weathermen in the 1970s (I was then chief of the criminal division in the Eastern District of Michigan and took over the Weathermen prosecution in 1972), I am amazed and outraged that Senator Barack Obama is being linked to William Ayers’s terrorist activities 40 years ago when Mr. Obama was, as he has noted, just a child.
Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen.
Because Senator Obama recently served on a board of a charitable organization with Mr. Ayers cannot possibly link the senator to acts perpetrated by Mr. Ayers so many years ago.
I do take issue with the statement in your news article that the Weathermen indictment was dismissed because of “prosecutorial misconduct.†It was dismissed because of illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions, initiated by John N. Mitchell, attorney general at that time, and W. Mark Felt, an F.B.I. assistant director.

Sammie took off, marc was solo. Someone said the first few minutes were a wreck (as usual).
Billboard in Springfield, MO.
W. Mark Felt aka Deep Throat. Go figure. I guess by today’s standards he and Mitchell would be considered heroes and their actions would no longer be illegal (except if it was an abortion clinic bombing).
Yesterday’s show was only a wreck in the beginning in the sense that there was no sound on the video which was resolved on the VOD. Marc started with a bit with his boss and Brendan regarding Sam’s absence. I hope that if the show continues or expands, perhaps Maron and Seder will do more solo work. I always thought if a 3 hour time slot came up on radio it could be one hour of each of them and one together.
Marc kinda hid his birthday. Maybe the culmination of his divorce had something to do with it. Someone noticed it on that Seder blog two days later but nothing else was said. Maybe they don’t like That One over there.
Holy shit, the Dow is down to less than 8500 right now (it was under 8,000 for a while there). This is starting to get pretty scary. We’ll be out on the streets selling apples pretty soon.
bush is to speak soon so it should be soaring soon.
Ah, the goodle days when it broke the 10K. Maybe we will get to relive that excitement in our lifetime.

So I was looking for an O’bama button yesterday and saw some T-shirts I liked. I really thought I’d get a shirt until I realized that with all his popularity sneakers aren’t too far away. I’ll just have to hold off until then.
Here’s Rachel on Leno last night. Go to the fifth segment.

Wow, there are some pretty gosh darn ugly sneakers there.
They might be okay for going out to get the paper- in the dark.
It’s O’bama (not Obama) because I guess he’s Irish.
Just had my first cal. test. Not that anyone gives a hoot but I think I did ok.
So long Joe. :gate:
I’ve had two Emergen-C’s within two hours and some Alka-Seltzer plus cold formula…My stomach is screaming :barf:
I mixed one of the Cherry Emergen-C packets with hot green tea. Not so good.
Travis, I m in awe of anyone’s ability to figure out calculus. Congrats on the test. The only thing I know about calculus is that it means pebble in Latin.
I vaguely remember you throwin’ that pebble down. I really don’t know much about calculus yet, but so far it’s been pretty simple. Instantaneous rates of change, average rates of change and finding the tangent line to the derivative at a point of a given function. There’s been a few goofy problems that involve infinity, but those are just asymptotes (I’ve heard that beavis and butthead would find that word funny) in disguise.
Palin will be on SNL on Oct. 25.
Four Days sorry if this has been posted already.
BREAKING NEWS
: Legislative panel finds Palin abused her power in firing of public safety commissioner.Legislative panel finds Palin abused her power in firing of public safety commissioner
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper, the chief investigator of an Alaska legislative panel concluded Friday. The politically charged inquiry imperiled her reputation as a reformer on John McCain’s Republican ticket.
Crap! Travis beat me to it by 30 minutes! :fu:
Okay, enough politics, it’s time for Tech Web Sound :bong: :jesus:
Hitting the road

My Fellow Prisoners,
I have to leave the show because my country needs me. Brendan McDonald and I are leaving today. We are flying into Los Angeles and from there we will go to Las Vegas NV, Sedona AZ, Phoenix AZ, Scottsdale AZ, Flagstaff AZ, Albuquerque NM, Colorado Springs CO, Denver CO, Garden City KS, Topeka KS, Kansas City MI, St. Louis MI, Terre Haute IN, Cincinatti OH, Colombus OH, Cleavland OH, Pittsburgh PA, Harrisburg PA, Buckhannon WV, Richmond VA, Annapolis MD, Baltimore MD and ending up on Election Day in Washington DC. This is going to be a rough ride in an RV. I will be on the show from the road every day. When my nation calls me to duty to examine the election process, the people that make this country great and the people that make it not so great–I must heed that call. Good luck and God bless and Godspeed, whatever that means.
Is that Marc or Sam, Vern?
Marc and Brendan.
101 days! May we last that long. 🙁
Hey, if anybody wants to hang out during Bill Maher, the Chat Room is open.
The door’s locked, PJ.

Getting a “404” file not found pj
So, he’s gonna be in Phx? When ? Where? I wanna be there.
You know, I’m getting really worried about what these people like Greg Palast are telling voters to do at election time so their votes aren’t stolen. I’ve worked the polls several times now and as a poll worker you swear to uphold the law. They’re telling people to not accept a provisional ballot. Well, then they won’t be voting at all because if you’re not on the rolls or you don’t have the id required then we can’t give you a regular ballot. I went through the provisional ballot thing in the primaries and it DOES get counted here, anyways. I tracked it and was walked through the whole thing by Jeff Farias’ wife who works for the Maricopa county board of elections. It’s a process of verifying your info is all it is. And it takes a little time. Also, they’re telling people to take pictures of their ballots in the polling place. Well, cameras are not allowed in the polling place, it’s the law and the poll workers have to enforce it. Obviously there are camera phones and we can’t take peoples phones away but we have to make sure no one is taking pictures. People also don’t understand the law prohibiting electioneering. There is no electioneering within 75 ft of the polling place and that means t shirts buttons and stickers that people may wear into the polling place. So they either have to take the shirt off or turn it inside out. I believe the law is there to keep the polling place as neutral as possible. What they’re telling people to do is scaring me to the point where I don’t want to work at the polls this year because it’s gonna be a fucking MADHOUSE and I don’t know if I can handle a bunch of irate voters who aren’t familiar with the laws.
40 minutes…………..
What happens if it is the Phillies and the Rays? Now that I have said it, it will never happen but what if it does.
The network will die.
I am an NL guy so I know where I will be (unless it is the dodgers).

Lasorda dodges S.F. parade for Game 3 in L.A.
Tommy Lasorda has withdrawn as grand marshal of Sunday’s Italian Heritage Day Parade due to a public stink about his selection and because organizers couldn’t ensure that he would get to Los Angeles in time to see his beloved Dodgers play Game 3 of the National League Championship Series.
snip
The parade briefly toyed with the idea of having an empty car for the grand marshal. Instead, however, it will honor another prominent Italian American, Joe Garbarino, from Marin Sanitary Service for his work in garbage recycling.
This is disappointing. I was hoping for Sacheen Littlefeather.
Come on ya bastids, it’s saturday morning, it’s dark, it’s cold, my paper hasn’t come yet and there’s no saturday opening yet! 😯
Has General Motors merged with Haagen Daz yet 😮 ?
