There was some kind of basketball game on the teevee last night. SU wasn’t in it, so I didn’t really pay much attention to it. It’s lacrosse season anyway. I suppose I better go see who won, though, so I can pretend I know all about it at work today. Have a good Tuesday.

So, I went out to get a six pack of some refreshing beverages last night. When I was putting my beverages away, I found a beer mug in the refrigerator filled with friggin’ asparagus. Not one of the cheap thin-glass beer mugs we have, and not the one with the crack in it (they’re in the cupboard, decidedly devoid of asparagus). No, this is one of the seven mugs that I like to keep in the freezer at all times. One of my few indulgences. What can I say? I like a frosty beer mug. And, frankly, I don’t particularly like asparagus (I don’t think it’s terrible, mind you, but if I had to choose between a frozen beer mug and fucking asparagus, asparagus loses every time).

But, hey, I’m not one to complain.

The only good thing about being down for the count for a few days last week was that, for the better part of three days, I didn’t look at any news, politics, or blog sites. I can’t say as I missed it a bit (which makes me wonder why I generally can’t stay away from the shit when I’m feeling halfway alive).

As Bill Maher said in his “new rules” on Friday night, talking about the ‘major’ blogs like Daily Kos, the Internet “enables pompous blowhards to connect with other pompous blowhards in a vast circle jerk of pomposity.” That’s pretty much how I feel these days when I try to struggle through the self-important snippet ramblings of people like Kos and Atrios and their “front page” stand-ins (and most of their “diary” writers and commenters – at least those deigned “important” enough to be “featured”), and why I rarely visit those sites anymore (haven’t really in a while, and have been thinking about taking down the links to their sites here – not that they’d even notice, of course).

Speaking of vast circle jerks of pomposity, it’s Sunday again, and time for another round of the teevee equivalent of the very important blogs.

On Press the Meat, Timmy Potatohead hits us with yet another round of surrogate vs. surrogate (it’s getting to be like a boring version of Mad Magazine; kind of a parody of a parody, except the pompous windbags that take part don’t get that the joke is on them). This week, it’s Obama supporter Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) vs. Clinton supporter Gov. Ed Rendell (D-PA). Then, in honor of Marin Luther King Jr., Timmuh allows black people onto the set, as Tom Brokaw (hey, not all black people; that’d be too scary), Michael Eric Dyson and Andrew Young look back on King, and his crazy notions of peace, economic justice, and racial equality (thank god we stamped them out).

At CBS’s Faze the Nation, Bush booby Bobby Schieffer once again packs a lot into a half hour, with Howard Dean, WaPost National Editor Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Nancy Youssef, Pentagon Correspondent for McClatchy, and CBS News’ Lara Logan (who would make a much better nightly anchor than the twit they have now, but then Logan is an actual reporter).

Fux News Sunday goes “On the Trail” with straight-talkin’ Maverick John McCain, and then Weaselface Wallace chats with John Kerry on General Betrayus Petraeus’ upcoming bullshitting briefing of Congress on Iraq, and Fux’s “power player of the week” is “Newseum’s” Executive Director Joe Urschel. Of course, there will also be the usual fuxheads for your viewing pleasure.

Over at the Goebbels network, George Snufalufagus has l’il Lindsey Graham and Jim Webb, and then George will ask Howard Dean how long this goddamn Democratic nomination thingie is gonna keep going on (you know, if they wanted it all to be over already, why the fuck did they even bother to have primaries after February; I mean, fer chrissakes, can’t we at least get through all the voting, first). Then, at the roundtable, it’s the Nation’s Katrina vanden Heuvel, Republican douche bag (yeah, that’s redundant, I know) Dan Senor, and 2 spokes in the axis of drivel are reunited, with Cokie “the hag” Roberts and George :jerk: Will.

On CNN’s Late Emission, Unterseekommandantkapitän Wolf Blitzer gets us back on the surrogate track, with Jack Murtha (he’s the Clinton one) and Christopher Dodd (he’d be the Obama guy). Plus there’s Dick Durbin, and crazyass cracker John “cornhole” Cornyn from the great state of Texas. Wolfie rounds out the show with Rev. David O’Connell, President of Catholic University. Hey, Dave, your fucking dorms suck! I hope you have to spend a summer sweating to death on one of those narrow vinyl mattresses (you’ll be lucky to pack a single altar boy in there with ya), staring at those crappy cream-colored cinder block walls. Not that I’m bitter, mind you.

Later, on 60 Minutes, Steve Kroft gives airtime to that lying piece of shit, Doug Feith. Lesley Stahl does a story on China’s government-controlled $200-billion sovereign wealth fund. And Bob Simon reports on how NASA is going to send people to the moon again (where the radiation will probably kill them, but, hey, nothing’s perfect).

Then it’s a new episode of Tracy Ullman’s State of the Nation, and everybody’s favorite twisted, perverted, conniving, and downright evil ruling family – no, not the Bush crime family – the Tudors, of course.

Back to work tomorrow, but so what? The birds are chirping in the morning again. Granny gets to spend quality time with her mommy and daddy today, whilst I get to spend quality time with my laundry (and my doggies). I think I win – even without the doggies. Have a good Sunday, y’all.

The end of a mighty long week. This will be a good one to get over. I just can’t wait to get to the end of the day, and then spend maybe two or three days in bed. Such is the fantasy life of an oldtimer, I guess.

Of course, the really big news is the premiere of the final season of Battlestar Galactica tonight. Oh, I know, you more serious folks find this kind of tripe ridiculous (we should be talking about the issues; we’re fighting for our lives, here), but to simpleminded folk such as myself, this is a pretty big deal. I’ll have to record it, though, since I don’t know if I’ll be able to stay up that late.

First things first, though. Time to get today over with.

Can’t say as I’m exactly 100% here but I reckon I’d better give work a shot today. Haven’t had the nerve to look at my e-mail, but I’m sure they took the opportunity of my absence to pile things on. This will no doubt be one long day.

Not feeling so hot today. Had something or other hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday. I hope it goes away. Mondays suck, but being sick sucks worse.

Today on Press the Meat, Timmy Potatohead has an exclusive with General Michael “Elmer Fudd” Hayden, and what will no doubt be a thrilling political discussion with Iraq War cheerleader Peter Beinart, and his assholiness himself from the NY Times, David Brooks.

Over at Faze the Nation, Bush Buddy Bobby Schieffer has Bill Richardson on to stump for Obama, Philly Mayor Michael Nutter, to pimp for Clinton, plus Joe “hippy dippy” Trippi, and John Dickerson, lately of Slate Magazine.

As for Fux News Sunday, Weaselface Wallace has l’il Lindsey Graham, Jack Reed, and (for unknown reasons) Stan Kasten (president of the Washington Nationals). And, of course, the usual Fuxheads.

At the Goebbels network, George Snufalufagus has Obama boy, John Kerry, Clinton supporter Ed Rendell, and McCain ball licker Joe Lieberman. Then on the “Roundtable,” it’s NY Times columnist Paul Krugman, little Robbie Reich, political mastermind Donna Brazile and, of course, George :jerk: Will.

Representing Kevin and the great state of Florida on CNN’s Late Emission, it’s Mel Martinez and Bill Nelson. Plus there’s Clinton sycophant James “the cupie doll” Carville, Obama true believer Jamal Simmons, former State Department Adviser Aaron David Miller,
Martin Fletcher from NBC and Heraldo Munoz, Chilean Ambassador to the U.N.

Later, on 60 Minutes, Scott Pelley brings us Murat Kurnaz, an innocent German-born Turk whom the US held at Gitmo and tortured for five years, President Al Gore talks to Lesley Stahl about global warming. and Morley Safer interviews Bill James, who analyzes stats or something for the Boston Red Sox.

Of course, the big news tonight is the premiere of Season Two of The Tudors, followed by the series premiere of Tracy Ullman’s State of the Nation on Showtime.

It’s back to work tomorrow, but, hey, at least we got Easter out of the way already. Enjoy your Sunday.
