So, I guess our boy Fred Thompson was on Jay Leno last night. Didn’t exactly feel compelled to stay up to watch (or even bother to record it). The thought of looking at his puss on the teevee for eight years (as preznit; for two minutes an episode on Law and Order, I can deal) is pretty nauseating, though. Not quite as nauseating as Rudy the cross-dressing Nazi, though. It’s sure gonna be a long, long, time until the ’08 election.

So, I’m checking out this Gallup poll, and it turns out that basically half the people in this country don’t believe in evolution. Not surprisingly, Republicans lead the way, with 68% saying they don’t believe in evolution. I find this pretty amazing, personally. But I reckon it helps to explain why this country has become so tragically pathetic and inept. I think we ought to send all the creationists over to Iraq. Clearly, the magic skywizard will protect them from harm, and the rest of us can stay home and work on developing renewable energy sources, and cars that run on water.

So, Joe Lieberman is on board with attacking Iran. Not surprising, I suppose, but still pretty annoying. He’s like that stupid, annoying kid in school, who keeps acting like an asshole, just to get some attention. And of course the traditional media continue to pay attention to insignificant assholes like him, Newt Gingrich, and Tom Delay, in spite of the fact that they’re totally irrelevant. Personally, I wish they’d all just STFU.

This is a sad day, indeed.

First up, an early morning edition (due to the French Open) of Press the Meat, with Timmy Potatohead hosting Colin Powell, on to tell us how proud he is of his work as Secretary of State – especially his bullshit dog and pony show in front of the world at the UN. You should’ve resigned and blown whistle on these people 3,500 Americans and 650,000 Iraq civilians ago, Colin. Now, you’re just gonna be remembered as Bush’s Dean Rusk. Also on, two hacks from the NY Times, to talk about their new Hillary book.

Over on Faze the Nation, we get a (Tony) Snowjob, plus our Pal Joey Lieberman and the Washington Post’s Colbert King and one of the hacks from the routinely incorrect collection of hacks, Politico.com, Roger Simon.

On Fux News Sunday, it’s another Snowjob, plus Dick Durbin joins Weaselface Wallace to talk about how Bush couldn’t even keep his boys in line long enough to pass the immigration bill.

On the Goebbels Network, George Snufalufagus hits the road with Saint John McCain, and then, at the roundtable, it’s former Pentagon Spokesbitch Torie Clarke, Time’s Jay Carney and his wife, Claire Shipman, along with the masturbatory utterings of George :jerk: Will.

Wolf Blitzer’s Late Emission includes Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, Evan Bayh, and Krazy Jon Kyl, on to talk about the immigration bill failure. Then there are Presidential candidates (at least in their own minds) Mike “Huckleberry” Huckabee, and Bill Richardson. We’ll also hear from Vladimir Putin’s Press Secretary, Dmitri Peskov (or, for you more alliterative types: President Putin’s Press Person, Peskov), and Carl “I used to be the good one” Bernstein is on to hawk his Hillary book.

Later, on 60 Minutes, Steve Kroft reports on the “No Fly List,” which includes the names of a president, dead people and common names shared by thousands of people. Then Lesley Stahl talks to Barry Diller, who brought us QVC and the Home Shopping Network, and Bob Simon tells us about the Moken people, who saw the seas recede, and headed for higher ground, thereby saving themselves from the tsunami.

But, of course, the big story today is the series finale of the Sopranos. I really hope Phil gets whacked; I don’t like him.

Enjoy your Sunday. These two-day weekends are just too damn short.

Today is the best day of the week. It’s the only day of the week you don’t have to work today, and you don’t have to work tomorrow. Unless you do have to work today, in which case, it sucks to be you.

It’s Friday, ya bastids! Not only that, it’s payday. My first payday in almost two years, even. Unfortunately, it’s supposed to be 94 here today, and that pretty much sucks. Even worse, it’s Balloon Festival weekend. Not that I have anything against balloons, mind you, but it’s at the park where we go for walkies, and it’ll be pretty much off-limits until next week. We’ll have to find someplace else to talk the poor doggie out. Not tonight, though; too damn hot. Let’s hurry up and get this day over with.

So, yesterday was pretty interesting, as far as working goes. Somebody jumped off the roof of the hospital. Not the highest roof, but enough to cause a lot of damage. The people on the other side of the building I work in saw the whole thing. Couldn’t see it from over on my side, though. Just as well; I don’t need to see that. Then I got to go to the ER, and check out the system that’s tied in to the traffic cameras around here. The traffic control guy zoomed all around for me. These cameras go all the way down to three feet resolution. Pretty cool. Today, no doubt, will be much more mundane.

Got an e-mail from Air America yesterday, and it made me realize something. Between working and what they did to Marc and Mike and Sam, it dawned on me that I really don’t give a shit about them anymore. I suppose if I was in front of the computer at home all day (or we had an AAR affiliate here), I’d be listening to them (well, not the Young Turds or Lionel, but maybe some of the rest of their crap), but as it is, I no longer care. I guess I kind of feel like I did when I finally quit smoking for real. All that stuff I jumped through hoops to get, and now I just don’t care. The only thing I feel bad about, is that I don’t feel bad about it. Go figure.

I feel bad, but I really can’t think of anything to say. Oh, I could complain about people who design databases and don’t use all unique attribute names in all of their tables (especially using a field named “date” in an Oracle database), I suppose. And I could also whine about having to figure out where somebody hid a non-standard Apache installation on a Sun Unix box (especially one where I all I can do is SSH into it remotely, and then try and remember my goddamn Unix command line syntax), and then created five or six config files, without indicating which one ought to be used. But that wouldn’t be very interesting, so I won’t do that. Ah, well, one down, four to go.

Well, this ought to be a tough week. Five days, after a measly two days off. I don’t know who came up with this 5/2 shit, but it certainly doesn’t seem fair. Even worse, I won’t be getting any vacation time for six months. Just in time to take a long Thanksgiving weekend, I guess. Oh well, at least the weather is supposed to cool off today. This heat and humidity sucks.
