So, let’s see, what’s going on? Ten days until the end of daylight savings time (for those of us who observe it, that is). Whattya say this year we set the clock back 25 hours instead of just one? I need an extra day of sleep. Eleven days until the launch of Nova M radio (and the return of Mike Malloy). Will there be a Marc Maron show? And something else is coming up, too. Can’t quite remember what it is. Something to do with a Tuesday in November….

Speaking of which, with all due respect to KStreetProjector and his or her “the sky is falling” diary at Kos, if anybody’s worried about the status of their voter registration, then contact your board of elections. Now. In my county, at least, I can just go online and enter my address and DOB, and it tells me I’m registered, and where my polling place is. If you can’t do that where you’re at, then call or stop by in person and make sure you’re eligible to vote. If your state has early voting, then do that as soon as you can.

We all know Ohio, Florida, and every other dirty state is gonna do their best to screw people over (again), so don’t show up on election day only to find out you’re being fucked with. I mean, c’mon, we know the plan – we’ve seen it at least twice now. Fool me once, uh…shame, shame on, uh, shame on you crazy diamond. Or something.

In Ohio, the really interesting thing will be if Blackwell has the balls to toss Strickland out on a baseless technicality, and if Ohio voters will roll over for it. You wouldn’t think so, but time will tell.

I’m frankly having a very difficult time doing anything but following the elections (I’m wearing out my F5 key over at MyDD, tyring to stay on top of the polls). I’m trying not to allow myself to get set up for a crushing letdown (ala 2002, not to mention 2004, and of course 2000), but goddamn it, here in NY (and Upstate, in particular), we have a chance to run these criminals out, and I really hope it happens.

One thing that a lot of people don’t understand is just how depressed the economy in Upstate NY has become over the last 30 or so years. Companies like General Electric, Carrier, Kodak, and Xerox were huge employers in the region, and have all but dried up now. Things are so bad that we’re (well, not me, but some poor suckers here are – including Republicans that are in bed with him) pinning our hopes on a scam artist who’s trying to leverage a “promise” of building a “really big” mall here into not having to pay property taxes. Oh boy, jobs in retail, at the expense of taxes for the schools and the infrastructure. And people who can are fleeing the area – especially young people; anybody with brains and skills gets the hell out of here as soon as they can (which perhaps tells you where I’m at, in terms of brains and skills).

You can say a lot about Hillary (I know I have), but one reason she’s done very well here is that she’s taken the time to come up and learn about us and our problems. It’s not something a lot of politicians on the state and national level tend to do (Chuck Schumer has been pretty good at it, too – both of them learned well from Daniel Patrick Moynihan, in that respect). And she’s tried to help.

She hasn’t been able to bring the 200,000 jobs back here that she set as a goal, but there’s a real sense that she actually cares, and has tried (in spite of laboring under a Republican stranglehold on the Federal government). I know that’s something people from outside the region really don’t give a shit about, and while I’ll be casting my vote for Howie Hawkins in November (because it’s safe to do so; I’m really not stupid enough to think we’d be better off with John Spencer), I certainly hope that the blue tide that appears ready to sweep NY State and (hopefully) the country will be the first step at making things better. Not the solution, but a first step. Hillary is far from perfect, but we could do a whole lot worse.

Hell, at least we won’t be electing Arnold Schwarzenegger governor.

Wednesday again. Wednesday’s suck. I have to finsh up doing my ERD (don’t ask) for class this afternoon, and then probably at least look at what it was I was supposed to read. Oh, by the way, if you’ve been trying to listen to Sedition Radio, I just realized the computer it’s on isn’t running at the moment. Must have gone down on Sunday, when we popped a circuit breaker (turns out you can’t simulatneously suck cat puke out of the carpet with the carpet sucker at the same time you’re shop-vac’ing out the pellet stove when they’re on the same circuit as the lights, three computers, and probably a few other things, too). I’ll get it up and running as soon as I have some coffee (and try and remember what the command is to start the server and the transcoder).

By the way, all you seditionists who are going to see Marc in the Boston area this weekend ought to try and hook up.

OK, the time has finally come to get the damn car inspected. They don’t even have WiFi there. Oh well, at least they have coffee, and I can watch CNN Headline News, which is always a big thrill. Hopefully I’ll be back in time for Sammy at nine.

So, here we go again – it’s Monday.  Way, way too much to do today.  On top of that, I have a ton of wood pellets (minus 40 pounds) to move from my van to my basement (I can throw a couple bags over my shoulder and still work the doorknobs and whatnot, but that’s still 25 trips up and down the stairs.  Not only do pellets seem to be in stock this year (for now, anyway; knock on, um, wood), but these are “FreedomFuel” pellets, that came in nifty red, white and blue bags.  I was wondering if they used to be called “FrenchFuel” or something, but seeing as they came from down cnick’s way (from Nature’s Earth Pellets in Reform Alabama, by golly), prob’ly not.  With all the sawmills in Canada and PA, it’s hard to beleive they had to go all the way to Alabama, but these folks are just gettin’ into the pellet bidness, so I reckon they’re willing to sell cheap (not real cheap, unfortunately; damn things have taken a jump over the past few years).  Still gotta get the damn car inspected.  Already got an extra month out of it – at this point, maybe I’ll just go for two.

Also, it’s a debate between Minnesota Senate candidates Amy “I’m not Katherine Lanpher” Klobuchar and Mark “you’re no JFK” Kennedy, to see who will fill the seat of retiring Senator Mark Dayton (kurrently, Klobuchar is Klobbering Kennedy).

Over at CBS, bush buddy Bobby Schieffer gets a visit from the Lizard woman, to reiterate why Clinton’s strategy (which kept North Korea from going nuclear) was a tremendous failure, while the bushies’ Strategic Ignorance Mater Plan (SIMP) – which culminated with NK’s test of a nuclear device – was such a masterpiece. Plus it’s Senator John “what the hell was Liz thinking” Warner, Sam “flying” Nunn, and reliable Republican-friendly stooge from the NY Times, David Sanger.

Over at Fux News Sunday, it’s another chance to have a look at a talking Lizard, plus we’ll see if John Kerry can kick weaselface Wallace’s ass the way Clinton did (my guess? Not so much).

Over on Wolf Blitzer’s Late Emission, I guess if you can’t get the Lizard, go with the Walrus, as America’s sweetheart John Bolton makes another Sunday morning appearance. There’s also Howard :omg: Dean, Ken “Larry Bud” Mehlman, Michigan’s Carl Levin, Nebraska’s Chucky Hagel, closet rightwing political pundit, Stuart Rothenberg, out of the closet rightwing hack Candy Crowley, and token non-wingnut Ron Brownstein, from the LA Times.

You’ll be happy to know that you won’t be missing much if you continue to boycott the Goebbels network, unless maybe you missed the Walrus’ earlier appearances (somebody toss this guy a fish already). George Snufalufagus will also hit the road to profile the Tennessee Senate race between Democrat Harold Ford, and Republican Bob Corker, to see who gets to fill Bill Frist’s open seat (so to speak). This one is a dead heat, with Ford running a helluva campaign, so far. Then it’s another thrilling roundtable, with George :jerk: Will, Fareed “token” Zakaria, and graduate from the NPR school of rightwing hackery, Martha Raddatz. Then Marg Helgenberger will be on to talk about her first time.

Later, on 60 Minutes, Ed Bradley talks to the three Duke lacrosse players (Reade Seligmann, David Evans, and Collin Finnerty) who are shocked – shocked, I tell you – to have been indicted for rape. He’ll also talk to the “other” exotic dancer (Kim Roberts), who apparently is refuting some of the accuser’s claims. Can they possibly fill the whole hour with this? Tune in to find out. Or not.

A little bit chilly here, but no snow to speak of. That’s generally a good thing, since a couple feet of wet, heavy snow really isn’t a good idea while the leaves are still on the trees. We haven’t really had a tough winter here in a while, and after this ungodly hot summer, I think we’re all expecting a lot of snow this year. I kinda like it, personally – especially now, since I don’t have to drag my ass out and drive in it every single morning. Not that I mind driving in it, but all these other assholes out there on the road can cause a lot of problems. Hell, I don’t even have snow tires.

Gee, poor North Korea seems to have everybody mad at it.  Even China.  And they maybe didn’t even have the big boom-boom they were hoping for.  At least, according to the US government.  The Russian government begs to differ.  Hmmm.  Tough call as to which one to believe there.   Either way, who really cares?  It’s all Clinton’s fault.

Another Tuesday, and just four Tuesdays away from the big midterm election. I really hope every single stinking one of these close races don’t mysteriously go over to the bad guys this time around. It’s not too soon to start getting ready to hit the streets if they steal this one, too. Either that, or stay curled up in a fetal position over in the corner someplace. Actually, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea. I think I’ll go and give it a try.
