Morning Seditionists

Saturday Morning Open Thread

Geez, that week sure went by fast, didn’t it. Great to hear the return of Marc Maron, but God forbid it should all go smoothly. No matter how good a thing is, AAR always seems to find a way to coax a little hate and discontent out of us, don’t they?

So, I guess we’re nuclear partners with India, and now Bush is in Pakistan. Ports for Dubai, nukes for India – I wonder what he’s got to offer Musharraf? Maybe there are a few US jobs he can send his way. Hey, let’s ship the Walton family over there (Sam’s kin, that is, not John-Boy and MaryEllen). Better yet, why doesn’t dubya just stay over there to help out? Musharraf sounds like his kinda guy.

Friday Night Show Thread

After a Sci-Fi/Bill Maher Friday, it’s once again time to play, “How will they fuck with the Marc Maron show tonight?” As usual, there’s a Clippers game to deal with – this time, it starts at 7:00 MMT, so it should only cut into the show by a half hour or so (barring overtime or god knows what else). I guess we need to keep track of UCLA games, now, too. Hopefully there won’t be any problems with the stream tonight, because the only way “premium” subscribers will be able to get a complete show (apparently) is if one of us manages to capture it and send it to AAR.

Tonight on the show, comedians Patton Oswalt and Melissa Paull, plus a sneak peak at dubya’s upcoming radio address. Don’t forget, outside of LA, you can call the show at 1-800-STEPH-1-2 (that’s 1-800-783-7412), at least until KTLK figures it out.

Friday Morning Open Thread

Friday already? Hard to believe. I’ve gotten used to not knowing what day it is, but now that Marc’s back on the air (or, back on the computer), I can’t figure out what the hell time it is. So, what great revelations will come out about the Bush crime family (thanks Mike) today? We got video proof that he didn’t give a shit about N’orleans, and then lied about it afterwards (or course, the Republican spin is, “hey, at least we got him to go to the goddamn briefing!”). E-mails finally turned over in the Plame case show that Rove, Hadley, and Bolton were all in on it. Murray Waas reports that Bush and Cheney were specifically told that their justification for attacking Iraq was bullshit. Nobody wants this port deal to go through, and even on the Führer’s own news channel, the best he can do is a 39% approval rating. Republicans are poised to retire from the House like rats deserting a sinking ship. And nobody wants Bush-stink on them anymore. Hell, and they don’t even let the bad news out until Friday night!

Nicholas VonHoffman once got into a lot of trouble on 60 Minutes for saying something to the effect that Richard Nixon was “nothing but a dead mouse on the country’s kitchen floor, and the only question is, who’s going to pick it up by the tail and drop it in the trash?” Well, if that was the case, then Bush is nothing but a steaming pile of crap on the floor, stinking up the place. It’s time for him to go, before somebody slips and hurts themselves.

No Clippers game tonight, thank god, so hopefully tonight’s show will go off without a hitch (assuming KTLK’s stream doesn’t crap out on us). Kudos to Seditionist Citizenkahn for getting the full show to the AAR “Premium” people. I came up a few minutes short of a full show, myself (story of my life). Sucks, I missed Sammy’s reanimation.

Anyhow, from what I did hear last night, I think the show is really coming up to speed in record time. The first night was a good show, to be sure (better than anything else out there, IMHO), but last night was even better. Having Marc all jacked up on Starbucks&reg (what, no Dunkin’ Donuts® out there?) and Raisinets® really brought out the Morning Sedition in him. I’m not quite sure I’m used to the “Tonight Show” music yet (it’s been hell getting out of bed in the morning without the Red Hot Chili Peppers jumpstarting my heart at six past the hour), but I think Jim Earl might just make a fine Ed McMahon one day.

Tonight on Marc, comedian Andy Kindler and professional gossip, Mark Lisanti’s of Defamer.com. And if we’re lucky, maybe Marc will catch us up on how the Clippers are doing!

Hey, how ’bout them Clippers, huh? I must confess, I was way too wiped out to listen to the show live last night, and I don’t even know (yet) whether I’ve got the show recorded, or just five hours of a Clippers triple-OT extravaganza. I’m not much of an NBA fan, personally, but I guess I could get behind the Clippers, since they started out as the Buffalo Braves (coached by Dolph Schayes, who won an NBA Championship with the Syracuse Nationals, who are now the Philadephia 76’ers).

Sorry, I know we’re fighting for our lives, here, but I’m just too damn tired to talk about the issues. Y’all better pick up the slack.

This will be interesting. There’s a Clipper’s game tonight, starting at 7:30, Pacific time. Last game ended right at show time, but they had another 50 minutes in postgame caca. So, I guess we’ll find out whether the Marc Maron Show gets delayed, and we get to hear the whole two hours, or if we’ll just join the show “in progress.” If you’re recording the show, better allow for an extra hour (or more) . Just pray there’s no OT.

Well, dagnab it. Damned if I didn’t stay up and listen to almost the whole freaking show last night (finally gave it up at about 2:30). It’s gonna be one long frickin’ day for me, as I sleepwalk through a presentation, and then try not to flunk a midterm too badly. Well, what the hell. My only regret is that KTLK’s 877 number wouldn’t let me call form my area code. I really wanted to say hello.

Marc Maron Show #1

Well, since the last thread went over 300 comments, here’s a nice fresh thread just in time for the premiere of the much anticipated, long-awaited, Marc Maron Show.

The New MaronEra Open Thread

Good Morning geniuses, philosopher kings and queens, working class heroes, progressive utopians with no sense of humor, lurking conservatives….

So, it’s finally here – the day we’ve all been waiting for since, well, I guess since December 16, 2005 (has it only been 10 weeks or so – it feels like forever). Tonight (or tomorrow, depending on what part of the world you’re in) is the beginning of the new Maron Era. In honor of this occasion, I’d like offer my recipe for Marinara sauce. Unfortunately, I don’t have one (maybe Gypsy can help us out), so instead, I’ll offer what I do have, and that’s my private, bootleg recording of the last live Morning Sedition from O’Neal’s on Thursday, November 3rd, 2005. Hopefully, it’ll help you pass the next 20 or so hours until Marc hits the airwaves once again.

Yes, listen to the clatter of the crowd, the clack of the coffee cups, and the congested coughs of the couples with colds. Listen to Brendan “PW” McDonald incite us to raucous applause after every commercial break. Hear Marc and Mark banter between segments, even if you can’t always understand what the hell they’re saying. Hear my wife say, “Didn’t you get me one?” Hear me say, “Sorry.” Hear her say something I couldn’t understand. Hear me say, “Yeah” (this’ll give you a pretty good idea of how things sound here at home most of the time). Anyhow, this isn’t a professional recording by any means, and there’s lots of noise. As it says in my Woodstock Album liner notes (now there’s a thing of the past), think of this “as being like the cracks in fine leather.”

Now, I don’t know what’ll happen to Morning Seditionists from here on out. Many people have e-mailed me privately to ask, so let me just say that this place will be around for as long as anybody wants to come here and hang out. I hope y’all keep coming, because, frankly, I’d really miss it. It’s been fun to be a part of this little family, with its moms and dads, crazy uncles, and goofy kid brothers (hah, you can all figure out who you are), not to mention you lurkers from around the world who stop by every day.

So, if you want to keep on coming back, cool; we’ll be here. And if everybody migrates over to whatever AAR gets going (last I looked, it wasn’t actually working yet, but maybe they have it together by now), and this place fades away in the coming months, I’m really glad that this was at least a bridge to help us get from Morning Sedition to wherever Marc, Jim, and the gang are taking us next. It’s been fun.

Hey, is somebody choppin’ onions?

There goes another weekend, and this next week and a half should pretty much suck for me, because I have a ton of stuff I need to get done between now and next Wednesday. Once that’s over, though, things shouldn’t suck too bad for a couple of weeks. At least we have Marc’s new show to look forward to. The next big question is, will it be on the AAR live stream (and, presumably, on XM, too)?

NEW YORK-February 24, 2006-Air America Radio announced today that comedian Marc Maron, former co-host of “Morning Sedition,” will return to the network on February 28, at 10:00 pm PST, when it debuts “The Marc Maron Show.” The announcement was made by President Gary Krantz.

That kinda makes it sound like he’ll be on, and it would seem kinda stupid to play Al Franken reruns when you have a new show that you’re trying to build an audience for (so as to better market it for syndication). But, on the far-out crazy chance that AAR will be both misleading and stupid (perish the thought), I have the Replay set to do a test record of KTLK tonight. Don’t forget (like I did, until just this minute), if you’re here in the East and you want to set your software up to record, it needs to be Tuesday – Saturday, 1:00 AM – 3:00 AM (not Mon-Fri; I almost screwed up, big-time). Well, I better get a move on.
